MEET MARCUS VALERIUS, THE LEGENDARY HERO.

'A master of the genre' The Times

Marcus Valerius Aquila has scarcely landed in Britannia when he has to run for his life - condemned to dishonourable death by power-crazed emperor Commodus.

The plan is to take a new name, serve in an obscure regiment on Hadrian's Wall and lie low until he can hope for justice.

Then a rebel army sweeps down from the wastes north of the Wall, and Marcus has to prove he's hard enough to lead a century in the front line of a brutal, violent war.

Thrilling, authentic and action-packed, Wounds of Honour launched the incredible EMPIRE series, and catapulted Anthony Riches to the very top of the historical adventure genre. ©2009 Anthony Riches

Would you consider the audio edition of Wounds of Honour to be better than the print version?

personally for me yes, working outside on a farm doing repetitive jobs its brilliant to escape

Any additional comments?

foolishly bought this randomly without properly checking it out, didn't realize that it was only vol 1 of a series of books!
Thankfully after the first couple of chapters I was engrossed and glad to know it isn't a stand alone book.
Shall help me pass many hours feeling like I am not stuck outside at work in the vineyard

A very good story, nice interpretation of Roman Army life, and the wall. Slow to get going but all the characters were built up, and the Romans did leave a lot of evidence of how they viewed the world for us to build up a novel. It helps that having visited the Wall and remains of its forts (especially the fantastic Vindolanda) to see how it is a plausible story.

A very good story
