Summary
For more than a century, Winged Hussars has been the richest of Earth's mercenary companies, as well as the only one to specialize in space warfare. Led by Alexis Cromwell, they have carved out a reputation in the galaxy for being dependable, unflappable, and lethally efficient. Until people began shooting at them everywhere they went.
Rick Culper left Earth in the hopes of finding a job as a merc. A natural at fighting in the armed suits known as CASPers, he finally caught on with one of the premier Four Horsemen companies, but it's with the Winged Hussars, and the company's prospects are beginning to look bleak.
Traps have been laid throughout a number of systems, and Commander Alexis Cromwell and her flagship, Pegasus, will be hard-pressed to make it back to their secret base. Even with Rick's help, the situation is much worse than anyone in the Hussars could have imagined. The Four Horsemen are being hunted, and the Hussars's future is dark. But there's one thing Alexis's enemies didn't count on - Alexis Cromwell is nobody's prey.

A good addition to the Tales of The Four Horseman books
I really liked this book as it references characters from the first book, Cartwright's Cavaliers, and expands on the stories of several individuals from that book.
It's a good follow-up to Cartwright's Cavaliers (the 1st book in this sequence) and as is normal in this universe, loveable and notable characters are not immune to bullets and may die in an instant.
It's refreshing to see that the harsh realities of war can creep into space-opera swashbuckling stories such as these.
Too often there's a focus on the invincibility and outright luck of popular characters within a story that stretches the credibility of the tale.
While this halo-effect certainly happens for some major characters in the FH universe, it is used mostly as a way to enrich the story and legend of the Four Horsemen Mercenary Companies.
There are some intriguing elements introduced in this book that I hope will be developed later on.
All in all a good addition to the Tales of The Four Horseman books.

As with other books, the only real negatives come down to a narrator's pronunciations, or in this case, more the narrator's reading style...
When I first started listening, I thought that the narrator, Michael Hinton, might have been under the influence of 'something' as it was so slow and painful to listen to.
At one point, I was listening to him read at 1.2x normal speed just to make it sound 'normal.'
As the reading went on, he speeded up considerably.
As another reviewer was driven to mention, large sections were edited-in.
These often sounded so different to the point of jarring.
It did sound like two different people were recording the novel.

Story with a view
another great book with a fantastic story, sadly i got annoyed or frustrated with the reader as the voice became higher and darker after it finished a meaning but it was still the same characther talking....

A good sequel
Winged Hussars is the 3rd book in the Revelations Cycle series, and a part of the Four Horeseman Universe of books
If Cartwright's Cavaliers was the series finding its feet, then its sequel Asbaran Solutions was a bit of a miss step. Chris Kennedy's writing wasn't as good as Wandrey's (but still enjoyable), and thankfully, Wandrey returns for this instalment.
Winged Hussars is possibly the best book so far, and here's why
1) The story is not just "Humans are the goods guys, Aliens are the bad guys". The Winged Hussars aren't just a human merc unit, and because of that, you have a great mix of interesting and memorable characters. You also learn a lot more about some alien races, which is a bonus
2) The book has its usual mech combat elements, but a lot more is given over to space naval encounters. These are well written, and gives the series another dynamic
3) The protagonists are well-defined and fleshed out (especially the returning Rick Culper from Cartwright's Cavaliers). Both heroes are likeable, and their stories compelling
4) The narration (for the audible release) is much better than Asbaran (even though the narrator threw me a bit with his pronunciation of "strafing"

Good story, but....
Good story but the narration is a bit strange. It sounds like two people have been edited together which makes listening unpleasant.
