Story
It's such a savage thing to lose your memory, but the crazy thing is it doesn't hurt one bit. A blackout doesn't sting or stab or leave a scar when it robs you. Close your eyes and open them again. That's what a blackout feels like. For Sarah Hepola, alcohol was 'the gasoline of all adventure'. She spent her evenings at cocktail parties and dark bars where she proudly stayed till last call. Drinking felt like freedom, part of her birthright as a strong, enlightened 21st-century woman.

When Kristi stopped drinking, she started noticing things. Like when you give up a debilitating habit, it leaves a space, one that can’t easily be filled by mocktails or ice cream or sex or crafting. And when you cancel Rosé Season for yourself, you’re left with just summer, and that’s when you notice that the women around you are tanked - that alcohol is the oil in the motors that keeps them purring when they could be making other kinds of noise. In her sharp, incisive debut essay collection, Coulter reveals a portrait of a life in transition.

This is the most forceful version of my stop drinking hypnosis range. Designed for people who are adamant that they want alcohol out of their life forever.

Story
I'm the binge-drinking health reporter. During the week, I write about Australia's booze-soaked culture. At the weekends, I write myself off. Born and raised in Scotland, the home of whisky, Jill Stark had booze in the blood. Alcohol had dominated her social life ever since she had her first sip of lager, at 13. She thought nothing could curb her love of big nights. Then came the hangover that changed everything. In the shadow of her 35th year, Jill made a decision: she would give up alcohol.

Story
Dying for a Drink is a true story of the chaos and hurt caused by an alcoholic. The author, telling her own story, writes of time spent in multiple rehabs, both in the United Kingdom and Sydney, Australia. She writes in the hope that her story will encourage other alcoholics and addicts (which can be anybody addicted to anything) - that they will see in their own stories the similarities rather than the differences.

God, I need a drink

Summary
At last, a book that reveals why alcoholics think, feel and behave the way they do. This book looks into the heart and mind of the alcoholic; it explains their thought processes, how they feel and why they behave so self-destructively.
Written by an addictions therapist and recovered alcoholic, it answers the question that every alcoholic and their loved ones have always asked, "Why do I/they drink this way?" It then goes on to offer a solution by explaining how alcoholism is a three part disease: a physical addiction, a psychological craving and obsession, and a spiritual illness, all of which have to be dealt with, especially the little understood spiritual component. This book, written in easy to understand language, isn't prescriptive but offers a deep understanding of the vital components that drive an alcoholic - and this in turn illuminates the way out. It is simply a must read for any struggling alcoholic and their loved ones.
- Live the life you were meant to live.
- Learn how to manage your feelings to stay away from alcohol.
- Understand why the alcoholic you love won't stop drinking.
A must -listen for anyone who loves someone who drinks too much. Tired and frustrated in trying to help someone who seems to just want to drink their life away? This book will help you understand what they are thinking and feeling and therefore why they drink the way they do. With this information you will clearly be able to see what you can do to love and support your loved one. Recommended by addictions counselors and treatment center managers, this book is a great resource for clients early in recovery.

The most generous, kind, and practical book I have read on how to live a full and happy life without alcohol...life changing
This audiobook is incredible...I'm sober 2.5years and although I have maintained that sobriety something major has been missing....and Veronica Valli has just explained to me CLEARLY what it is...and most importantly, what to do about it. She is utterly inspiring and when you listen to her an alcohol free life is one you want rather than bawk at. She has explained so many things that I've heard in sobriety but couldn't understand or accept, but it in a way that finally makes sense to me. She makes this whole difficult messy topic of addiction SO accessible and easy to understand. To be honest I was blown away by this book...you could hear a pin drop when I was listening to it. It makes SO MUCH SENSE. It helps that voice and accent are a dream to listen to, but it's the genuine enthusiasm and love in it that makes this work so wonderful to listen to. You feel as though she is talking directly to YOU. And actually...she is. I have ordered the paper back because I want to go back and underline so many parts of it so I can refer back to it again and again. And I've also ordered her work book Get Sober Get Free, and I honestly am so excited to start working through it. Veronica Valli has shown me there is a huge light at the end of the tunnel now, authentic living, and I'm heading there without delay.

Very complete, effective approach
I've read/heard many books on this topic and I can say that this one is the most complete and effective one, as it covers the whole range of factors that affect dependency on alcohol. I've read/heard books that provide "easy" solutions that really do not last. Unfortunately, to fix alcoholism, there is no single "silver bullet" which was my initial thought when I first encountered this problem. The key is not just on one thing, it's MANY things, and is not a single battle, it's a war. A war in which all fronts must be constantly conditioned: your body, your mind, and your spirit. This book can unlock the key, it did for me.

Educational and Soul Touching! 2 Thumbs Up!
What made the experience of listening to Why You Drink and How to Stop the most enjoyable?
Veronica absolutely captures the raw emotions and heart wrenching struggles experienced by alcoholics. She weaves a story while educating the reader on the destruction of the disease. I appreciate her honesty, creativity, and her ability to relay a message of both despair and hope!
Any additional comments?
Many thanks Veronica for getting the word out about this disease that effects so many lives and for letting us know that the soul sickness can be stopped! Great Job!!

Easy medicine for the reluctant
For a troubled drinker the author does a great job of introducing self-actualization goals (I won't call them spirituality.) to direct the reader to something that an atheist or agnostic could welcome in a path to recovery. On he other hand, don't let your wife listen to it. It won't turn out the way you expect.
