Summary

Why Mummy Swears is the much anticipated new novel from Gill Sims, author of the hilarious Why Mummy Drinks and online sensation Peter and Jane.

It’s every parents’ nightmare - the start of the school holidays - and instead of sitting in the sun, reading a book over a cold, crisp glass of Pinot Grigio, Mummy has two bored moppets to attend to. After frantically booking sports camps, child minder slots, not to mention time off work, Mummy is exhausted. But this is only the beginning....

After being dragged to join the school’s PTA in the new term by an annoyingly kind-spirited neighbour, Mummy is stuck with organising the Christmas Fayre and pleasing all the overly disapproving parents. In combination with getting to know her father’s surprise new glamorous (and much younger) wife and being forced to spend more time with her narcissistic mother, life isn’t cutting her much of a break. What more could possibly happen?

LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Brilliant book. So true at times and laugh out loud moments. I loved it and hope there is another through teenage year.

Great second book

I absolutely loved the first in this series and this one did not disappoint. I’m currently pregnant and loved the realistic parenting advice that comes through in a comic and delightful way. I really hope we get more adventures from this family.

Another funny summer read/listen

Thoroughly enjoy Peter & Jane, (Gill Simms’ blog). Why Mummy Drinks was a funny and enjoyable read, but I felt the Gabrielle didn’t do the character of Ellen justice and it lacked any enthusiasm and by the end I felt she was bored reading it. Shame.

Thank you for making reality sound funny. I totally can relate to these.

Every bit as good as Why mummy drinks

Wonderfully reassuring for me as a mother of an 8 year old son !!! Well observed and very funny. Although listening to it in the car my 8 year old poppet has doubtless picked up some of the language....hmm maybe some material there for the next book....bring it on, I can't wait.

Not a sequel... an upgrade!

Another triumph by Gill Sims read brilliantly by 'Bob' (Gabrielle Glaister). Loads of laugh out loud moments... and a bit of blubbing. Perfect!

So funny, so true

I enjoyed this immensely but it would have been so much better had it been read in a proper Edinburgh accent.

Brilliant!

I loved this book (and the first one) so much that I was literally dreading its inevitable ending. The author kept me laughing out loud, except when I actually cried at one point. I literally felt like she was telling my own story, complete with every exasperating moment of motherhood and full time work. I can not wait for her next book!!!
