About this listen

Elizabeth Cage is a child when she discovers that there are things in this world that only she can see. But she doesn't want to see them, and she definitely doesn't want them to see her.

What is a curse to Elizabeth is a gift to others - a very valuable gift they want to control. When her husband dies, Elizabeth's world descends into a nightmare. But as she tries to piece her life back together, she discovers that not everything is as it seems.

Alone in a strange and frightening world, she's a vulnerable target to forces beyond her control. And she knows that she can't trust anyone....

White Silence is a twisty supernatural thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat.

Took a punt on this as a deal of the day, having no experience of the authors other works. I read another review saying the book was disjointed and wow were they right!

It had a lot of promise - the scares were scary, the jokes mostly funny and the relationship building between characters quite touching at points. All was running fairly well until around 1/3 of the way through, where the plot was thrown out the window and all logical actions set aside to the point where I had to skip back to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood chunks of what had happened earlier. The last 2/3s of the book picked up (after I took a long break) but the ending was another jumble without any pay off.

This book was very “OK”. It’s hard to tell whether all the 5 star reviews are coming from the authors diehard fans or whether I’ve missed something.

Very listenable but with disjointed story and tone.

I was very willing to give this a go, and was initially intrigued by the setting and premise. But after the first chapter the book just sort of drifted into drawn-out exposition and filler. The direction was lost and the potential dissolved. Long before the end I felt that I had wasted my time in this book.

I agree with a previous reviewer who said that it really needed a good edit; and I think it should then have gone back to Ms Taylor for a pretty serious re-write. A bit disappointing to be honest.

The narrator was brilliant though - I thought she made the very most from a distinctly average bit of writing.

Initially promising but doesn't deliver

After my disappointment with the sequel to Frogmorton I was worried that Jodi had lost her touch. This book is possibly one of her best. It is unique, fascinating, funny, entertaining and keeps you guessing right to the end. It equals any thriller I have read ( and I've almost 200 books in my audible library of all genres)

I can't wait for the next instalment. Well done Jodi and thank you 😊

Jodi back on top form - excellent book

I absolutely loved both the St Mary’s and Frogmorton series and so was worried that I wouldn’t like this different series. Shouldn’t have worried as this was engrossing from the start and I look forward to other new titles from Jodi...

Was worried that I wouldn’t like this after St M’s

So many twists and turns. Very enjoyable, dare I hope it will be a series?

What a rollercoaster

it didn't seem like the end and there is more to come. I enjoyed the story line and thought it was well read by the narrator too.

I enjoyed this but wondering if there's a part two

Absolutely great development of the character and the story - not usually a fan of supernatural style books, but this has the right doses and right amount to really enjoy it. Time to listen to the second one !

splendid

Terrific spooky story. At one time I thought I or the writer had lost the plot but she neatly tied it all up in an exciting and believable ending. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

Don’t hide the unknown !!

I wasn't sure what I expected from this book. I have never read anything from this author before. It was in parts funny, exciting and sometimes outrightly unbelievable but it kept me amused from start to finish.

The narrator was excellent and had a voice that was easy to listen to and in part it was interpretation of the humorous elements that held me

Enjoyed more than expected

I’m new to this author but I was so gripped by this story I’m definitely a fan now.
Great narration by Kate Scarfe, I will also be seeking out her work.
