Horrible Narration

Ok I couldn't listen more than about 15 minutes. It was the worst I have ever heard! Its read like by different people for different characters. It was just flat out awful I will order it on my kindle and read it. Sad Because I truly love Catherine Coulter and have read EVERYONE of her books. But this was so a waste of money!

Not the best - Terrible narration!

The story line of this book was not very compelling. The previous books seemed to have a lot more tension and crime solving. So as a book it wasn't that great, but as an audio listen it was horrible.

The male narrator was just terrible. It sounded as though he were reading the book for the first time. He put the emphasis on the wrong words and he enunciated each and every word - almost like listening to a group of first graders sitting around a circle learning to read. It - was - a - nice - warm - day - out - side - and me - and - my - friends - were - playing. Nothing flowed, it was just a bunch of disjointed words.

The narration was so bad that it completely took me out of the story on numerous occasions, so I'm not sure if the book was really that bad or just the reading.

Like an earlier reviewer said - it might be better to read this one rather than listen.

Not enough crime solving

I enjoy Catherine Coulter's character development, but I didn't like the way this book resolved. There was too much about the characters and what they eat and not enough details about how the crime was solved.

Enjoyable, but not blown away

I love this series, I consider it one of my absolute favorites. I enjoyed this book, but wasn't as enthralled with it as I usually am. As a story, I could take it or leave it. I kind of wished I hadn't spent the money on this one, and waited until it came out in paperback.

Quit, couldn't stand it any more

I never write reviews but I want to save others from the pain of listening to this book. There is so much stupid detail about stuff that has nothing to do with the story that it is nothing short of painful to hear. Maybe the abridged version would be better.

I usually enjoy the stories about Dylan and Sherlock, but the narrators in this book made the book hard to listen to. The male voice was very deep and slow. The female voice sounded to me like a man trying to sound like a woman and was also very slow. It just drug on and the ending wasn't all that great. Way too much detail...listed every ingredient on a pizza. Glad when it ended and I could move on to something else.

Waste of time/money

Please, do yourself a favor and spend your time elsewhere!
Book has ridiculous and unreal plot, characters are film-thick stereotypes with funny names, FBI agents act like clowns, not like professionals we all know they are.
For starters: FBI agent needs a babysitter for his daughter, so he shows up on a door step of his kid's ballet teacher whom he never met in his life and asks to leave her there... HUH?
Or comical German agent with laughable ideas about man-supremacy (I am a man!), -it is not 19-th Century anymore, did author noticed it?
I am a little bitter, as I feel cheated by author who was insulting my intelligence throughout this story.

I would give it 0 stars, or minus 5 for all I care, but lowest possible is 1, so I give it 1.

Really lame

What disappointed you about Whiplash?

I didn't realize when I downloaded Whiplash that it was a romance novel and what a mistake! I wasted a credit on a book I couldn't finish. The narration was horrible which added an additional measure of disappointment in the purchase. Of course, there wasn't much for the two narrators to work with, so I will reserve complete judgment.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Probably a Henning Mankell novel.

How could the performance have been better?

Improved writing would have made the difference.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

excellent story it drew me in and I had to finish!

The story drew me in right away. The characters are well-developed and although there was a lot of foreshadowing oh, I didn't figure out the whole thing till the end. that final mystery was very good.
