Ian Bremmer spans the world and political divides to look at how lack of opportunity is causing nationalism, racialism, authoritarianism, and us vs them-ism. The situation will get more divisive unless the winners find ways to grow the pie, especially for those left behind.

More than the title

Explains the huge frustrations that have led to populism and condemns the dismissal of the people who back it as racists etc.
Very interesting explanation of why globalists appear so keen to ignore democratic structures in the west and rightly identifies the powderkeg of increased automation destroying up to 80% of jobs in the developing world. But then fails to tackle the actual issue, ie a globsl banking sector that's out of control snd s global economy that puts shareholders above all.
Points out that sneering at opponents isn't helping anyone. Then proceeds to sneer at Trump like the best of CNN with an extraordinary personal attack in the conclusion.
But, the author's prejudice aside, its an important book.
Unless we address the issues identified, were headed to a very bad place but the solution isn't unelected oligarchy, its trusting the people with a truly representative democracy, Mr Junker!

A good book that gives us some cause for concern in the future, not least because the very people we are electing to run our countries are a big part of the problem and they will have zero incentive to change the status quo.

Since Trump and Brexit I've been trying to figure out why there has been a rise of populism. This book answers this at a macro level and goes into various developed and developing countries state of affairs. The writing and information is clear and concise even though a lot is covered. I ended the book feeling informed, level headed and worried for the future (although less worried if I knew a majority of people had read this book!)
