Summary

Charis:

Asher Norrell is my dream man - hot, brilliant, and charming, every big, strapping inch of him. Too bad he thinks of me as a platonic buddy. I'm no femme fatale. Nope, I'm the tomboy who shoots hoops with the guys, not the love bunny who sits on their laps.

But, oh, well. I guess it's all for the best. Because I just got engaged. Even if the marriage won't be quite...the usual kind. I just wonder if Asher will be pissed when he finds out who my fiance is.

Asher:

On the surface things are perfect. I'm sailing through college, I'm already successful in my field, I've got a beautiful girlfriend, and life is sweet. To top it off, I have the best friend in the world in Charis Sloane, doctoral student, gamer, and honorary family member from way back. Sure, she's a geek, but so am I under all these muscles. I don't need my bestie to be a girly-girl; I already have one of those to warm my bed.

The important thing is, I have Charis's back and she has mine. Good thing, too, because below the surface? My life isn't nearly as awesome as it looks. Then Charis tells me she's getting married....

Now I have to stop her, or we'll miss our last chance to make right what should have happened long ago.

Contains mature themes.

Great book

Funny book l. With low angst. Sometimes you just need a story you can relax and escape too. I really enjoyed the low angst. It is pretty crass. So be warned if you aren’t into it. I thought it was hilarious. I couldn’t put it down. Which is why it’s 11:30pm and I’m finished with the book the same day. Definitely worth a credit, as I will be listening to this one again and again. I know it’ll be great between book hangovers.

Was hopeful....

I generally love Alexander's narrations, but his female voice...ummm in this book it sounded as if I was listening to Steve Urkel. I am trying to stick it out for the story, but it's really annoying me. Maybe reading it would make it better I guess. 🤷‍♀️🤔

Amazing friends to lovers story

Warning do not get this book if your overly sensitive to bad language. I loved this funny and lighthearted friends to lovers story. It was a refreshing listen. Asher is pretty cocky and crasp but still likeable. Charis was guarded and somewhat clueless but not overly annoying. I usually get bored with overly long seduction/sex scenes but this book rocked it. The narration of the book was dead on for me. After reading another review I was kind of worried about it, since the story is told in first person the male doing a female voice didn't bother me. I'm not knocking anyone elses opinion but I just want to give another POV.

Read it instead of listening

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

no, Alexander Cendese was terrible, I don't know why you have men trying to do girl voices when they suck at it.

Would you be willing to try another one of Alexander Cendese and Stephanie Wyles ’s performances?

no

It was terrible

This book could have been amazing. I could have loved it so much. Both characters had so much potential to be well-liked, well in my eyes at least, but no. It was terrible, complete shit, and the characters were frustratingly annoying as fuck. Most of it was from his immature, douchebag mind, and for someone who despised his ex and had moved on, he really compared his bf/gf and the ex a LOT in his head. Even in the bedroom. It really pissed me off a couple of times... especially when he said things about her such as, ‘her hips aren’t as curvy as I’d normally go for’, or her ‘boobs are basically nonexistent’. Okay, shithead.

wah wah wah

Absolutely struggled to finish this. This storyline started out with promise and just tanked. Charis was such a wet blanket throughout. The whole premise was good but it dragged and did way too much stupid drama that was unnecessary. Asher was way too much of a hound even at the end at the party. Just all too wah wah wah. get on with it! I fast forwarded through several parts. I like Alexander Cendese but his "female voice" is obnoxious. Stephanie Wyles voice grated on my nerves. Even just a normal part she made sound like it was all breathy and annoying. Good premise, bad and longwinded delivery.

I love Alexander Cendese as a narrator!

Ok so I love listening to Alexander Cendese as a narrator! He brings such character and life to the male and female characters. The female narrator could have been left off altogether. I didn’t care for her AT ALL. The storyline was just lacking. I can’t even describe it. I stuck it out because like I said, I like listening to Alexander bring characters to life and give voice to them. Otherwise I wouldn’t have continued this book until the end.
