Summary

Enemies to...bodyguard duty?

Sergeant Nix Marr is a damn good soldier, but she's desperate to leave her haunted past in the bioluminescent ocean, buried alongside old friends...and old flames. Unfortunately, even the icy ocean can't extinguish some fires. When Kessandra, everyone's favorite princess—and Nix's loathed ex—requests Nix's help investigating a massacre in the abyssal city of Fall, Nix refuses. Vehemently.

But Kessandra always gets what she wants.

Consigned to being Kessandra's bodyguard, Nix grudgingly boards a luxurious submersible that offers the only transportation to Fall. It's frustrating, irritating, how quickly Nix and Kess fall back in sync—much as she tries to fight, Nix can't deny their spark. But Kessandra wasn't truthful—surprise, surprise—and Nix quickly realizes their "investigation" isn't about the massacre, but rather what caused it: an illness that incites its victims into a violent craze.

When another royal is brutally murdered, it becomes apparent the disease has spread—and no one on the submersible is safe. Suddenly, survival hinges on trusting each other, which would be a hell of a lot easier if Kessandra didn't keep lying. Injured, fighting for their lives, Nix has to decide if she can trust Kessandra again...and what she'll lose this time.

This book is a heart-pounding science fantasy with a swoon-worthy sapphic romance. With its blend of fantasy and technology, it's a hit for any fans of sexy sapphic romance.

Underwater Adventure

A great story with characters you fall in love with. There’s some horror but nothing too graphic or scary which was perfect for me.

The narrator is excellent and carries you through the story with ease.

I can’t believe I have to wait for the rest of the series though. I need to know what happens!

Natalie Naudus is an amazing audiobook narrator and this was no exception. Rebecca Thorne has created a fantastic, fast-paced adventure and I can’t wait for the next book in this series

Amazing audiobook

The narrator was amazing, she really captured my attention and told the story beautifully. The story itself, of course, was also excellent! Rebecca Thorne delivered a really good thriller, the characters are great, the suspense, the premise, I really enjoyed it all!

Absolutely love this book

Its well paced, doesnt start off slow and build up but it isnt a racehorse out the gate either. Has a good speed and some highly wonderful tropes throughout.
I've read this book three times now so was stoked at the chance to listen to it instead. My only very minor issue with the audio version is that like many narrators, they increase the volume to differenciate when its something that a character is saying as opposed to narration. Its a small irk and the difference isnt vast (two down clicks on a phone volume) but as someone who has sensitive ears it was noticable.
Otherwise, this is a wonderful book, really well written, engaging and holds the attention consistently thoughout. I've recommended it to multiple friends and am buying it for another for Solstice
