***Destiny - is it really inevitable?***

*Join Viktor as he uncovers part of his past in this collection of Warden Global books and short stories.*

Hidden in the shadows is a supernatural world, filled with wonders that coexist alongside our own. Standing on the threshold of both, he fights for those who can’t protect themselves. It isn’t fun; it isn’t glorious, but it is important.

There are some hard choices that need to be made, and when he’s done, nothing will be the same.

Collection includes:

  • The Wanderer Awakens, Warden Global Book One
  • "Sleipnir's Heart" (short story)
  • Rise of the Storm Bringer, Warden Global Book Two

A wonderful beginning to a new hero & world.

I have a new favourite author, and his name is Ken Lange.

Ken has singlehandedly, and in amazing detail, created a universe which is original and exciting. The worlds of the Starborn and of the Stoneborn - and some....others... with all who inhabit them, are utterly enthralling and have drawn me in book by book.

I was fortunate enough to happen across Ken, on Facebook, read a blurb for the Warden Global year one series (the other Nine Worlds Saga - that of Viktor Engel Warden - which he has written, created in the same universe, world and timeline as the Gavin Randall series). From there, Ken very kindly offered me an Audible code, which I gratefully accepted and I listened to the entire Year One series over the following few days. Hooked!!

Excellent characterisation, superb action - which is interspersed with humour, often of the snark variety - and intelligent clear storylines, which draw you in and have you listening wherever you go - driving, working, doing the washing up, or while others are watching TV, or else sitting, travelling the Nine Worlds, alone except for Viktor, into the wee small hours, until you realise the book is done and it’s around an hour until you should be waking!

For me, that’s the mark of a great author. I am reminded of the way in which Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files drew me in and swallowed me whole, when I first read them. I “tripped” over them in the same way, and have never regretted it.

Ken deserves the same kind of success. His stories build, book on book, developing themes and characters, worlds and powers not meant for normal men and women. But that’s fine. Because his heroes and heroines are NOT normal men and women. They are the Stoneborn; the witch, the vampire, the sorcerer, the were, the siphon, the Vigil, the Grim, the Starborn.

Wonderful stuff, merging mythologies in a complex, yet logically presented and intoxicating fashion for all us Urban Fantasy fans. There are tropes, yes, of course, but Solomon said (probably to Viktor) so long ago, “There is nothing new under the sun”. These are secondary to great characters, a cracking storyline, great interplay and action, which is unrelenting at times, in the hyper octane-fuelled manner of Matthew Reilly.

I am now reading the other series, at present - the Vigil Urbani series - and I fear I shall continue, relentless, until they are all read, before returning to Viktor’s side of the story.... and then what shall I do?? But Ken deserves to be read, and to be successful. I cannot help myself. I simply must continue, the books are just THAT enjoyable.

Ken, you have me hooked, my friend! You MUST feed my addiction! Your fans demand it!

I received a promotional code for this collection of Audible books, in return for an honest and genuinely objective review. I am delighted to be able to say I loved every second of it, and was genuinely saddened when it finished. The time flew by, as the scenes unfolded in my mind’s eye, helped along by the narrator, who was perfect for the role. The BIG moments and reveals genuinely gave me some gooseflesh, which at my age and when you have seen and done - not to mention read - all that I have done, is no mean feat. Give it a spin. I do not believe any UF fan will regret it!

Fantastic use of a credit!

I’m currently on book 3 (book 5 if you count the 2 mini-background stories in the omnibus). I’ve also read book 1 of his Vigiles Urbani Chronicles, so Ken’s definitely not a one trick pony as that’s great too!
Honestly, it’s brilliant! A Dark, Gritty, complex Urban Fantasy full (and I mean FULL!!) of action, fights and magic!!
I’ve never read a book so brimming with magic and fights that doesn’t come across as too ‘easy’. There’s no ‘one spell’ that consistently wins every fight... each fight is very hard fought and brutal.
Anyone with a spare credit should give this a go. Especially the omnibus as you get 4 stories (over 21 hours!) for a credit.
It’s not often I come across such a highly polished indi series and I’ve not even mentioned Andrew’s fantastic narration!! Easily moved straight into my top 5! Great pacing, excellent character differentiation and pulls off the intensity and suspense so easily. Has an almost RC Bray feeling to him (but dare I say, even better!), so should appeal to his many fans out there!

I’m not sure if Ken would recommend starting with Warden or the Vigiles though. Either way, I don’t think you can go wrong.

This is my honest opinion of a free review copy.
