Story
Lissianna has been spending her centuries pining for Mr. Right, not just a quick snack, and this sexy guy she finds in her bed looks like he might be a candidate. But there's another, more pressing issue: her tendency to faint at the sight of blood . . . an especially annoying quirk for a vampire. Of course it doesn't hurt that this man has a delicious-looking neck. What kind of cold-blooded vampire woman could resist a bite of that?

Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Keenan is the mistake Khloe knows she shouldn't make. As an incubus, he's got an inside track into everything that makes her tick, and even though she's immune to his supernatural (and frankly unfair) sex appeal, that doesn't stop her body - and her demon - craving him. If it were any other male she'd have worked it out of her system ages ago and moved on, but this time she's scared that if she ever gives in, she won't escape unscathed.

Shadowvale isn’t typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse. No one knows this as well as raven shifter Deacon Evermore, who, like everyone in his family, has a curse. A match made in hell? Devon and Tanner fight like...well, cats and dogs. Which, to be fair, makes sense since hellcats and hellhounds aren't exactly a match made in heaven. Summary
Irresistible desire and thrilling suspense combine in this electrifying new Argeneau novel from New York Times best-selling author Lynsay Sands.
For close to 3,000 years, the imposing, impossibly handsome Santo Notte has fought in armies across the world and battled his own more personal enemies. Of all the places he might expect to encounter his life mate, a quiet corner of upstate New York doesn’t seem likely. But as soon as he makes contact with history Professor Petronella Stone while hunting down a suspected rogue immortal, he knows she will be the greatest adventure of his eternal life.
He expects her to be surprised, confused, even overwhelmed. What he doesn’t expect is that Pet has a secret history of her own. There’s no mistaking the mind-blowing, mutual pleasure they share. But as Pet struggles to protect her nephew from a danger lurking too close to home, Santo realizes there’s another threat to her safety - him. And claiming their passionate future will be impossible until he leaves his past behind, forever....

Very odd!
I love these books and have them all, I also have the audible options. This one however was very strange. The story is great as are all books in the series, but I do wish those reading would take a brief time to check the background of the main characters. In this the Argeneau family seems to have turned into Cubans! They were not! The Notte family are Italian. I just found it really disconcerting that all the characters that I love had changed that much. Having said that, the reader had a good voice nd read well, just in completely the wrong accents.

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL & BRILLIANT ARGENEAU EPISODE.
Another beautiful & brilliant Argeneau episode. Here Cristos Norte finds his Lifemate Pet Stone. After Pet's nephew, Parker made a 911 call about his elderly neighbour's nephew turning up, acting weird & has fangs, which makes Margurite & Julios Norte hears the call which makes them investigate & its after they meet Pet that Margurite knows that she belongs to their nephew Cristos 😉💞 We see that Pet & her twin Quin have had their own experience of Rogue Immortals. Find out her horrendous story came about & ended & Cristos story of his three thousand year life & what happened his children. My 1 downside was not finding out if the twins adopted parents knew about their mother & step father & why Quin seems like she doesn't remember their life before moving to the US, though I guess we'll find out more when we get to Quin's own story...

New characters and a new Immortal family mentioned
This book is in a long series. There are times when a book that has been part of a long series the newer book tends to suck. You want the author to just give it up and start writing a new because the ideas are repetitive and it hurts the series in the long run. I have had many series destroyed because an author just cannot let it go. However for Ms. Lynsay Sands that is not the case for this book. The past two books however, Twice Bitten and Vampires Like It Hot was not the best, however I really loved her earlier books and I thought that I may have to give up on this series but this book made me want to continue this series. I loved Santo at times. We knew a bit about him but did not know his story. I still feel as though I do not know his story. I know about some major life events however I do not know what he has been doing since something horrific happened to him. I still do not know how Dressler captured him in the first place. We got so much background when it came to Pet that Santo just seemed as an afterthought in this book. There were so many great things that happened within this book and so many things that I was confused about. I have no idea what happened with the timeline. One minute someone is pregnant and then it is never mentioned again, it is a major player in the story as well. What happened with the pregnancy? Did Ms. Sands forget that she made this character pregnant or did she make a mistake and think that no one would catch it. Either way it had me confused and I kept going back to other books to make sure I was correct. I enjoyed Parker, Pet's nephew. I cannot wait to see that happens with him. I am a bit concerned about Pet's sister, Quinn, I think there are somethings that Quinn is hiding. I have no idea what that is but I do think there is more to her then what Pet is telling everyone. I also believe she knows more about what is happening and what has happened but will not tell Pet about. I am intrigued about the Golden Circle. I love the Argeneau's and the Notte's however I want to know more about the other Immortals that survived Atlantis. I understand that these two families are super important but there are a lot of different Immortals out there and I want to know more about them. With this book we learn a bit about them but nothing that would make me feel as though my curiosity was quenched. I need to know more about the different countries and all about the different people. The next book in this series, Immortal Born, has a character that I know nothing about. I hope that the timeline is back on track because this being lost madness is just.. well.. madness.

I feel duped the story was good until....
Slow Burn story which was good but there was... no more humor... no more challenges... no more bad guy explanation... no more validation... yes to senseless drama that makes no sense and. Add a speedy ending so rushed I'm surprised my hair is still straight! no wait I just looked in the mirror totally wind-blown!!! that's the sum of the story... spoiler alert!!! but if you really want an honest in depth opinion of why I thought so low the story go ahead and read this anyway... First the nephews arrive almost at the end of the story and all of a suddenly he has a history of harming them in his sleep so he decides to drop his life mate despite the fact that they have passed out several times even to the point of sleeping in each other's arms in the story and he has not even come close to harming her in fact he woke up before her all of the times even one time carrying her up the stairs to start their second round hint hint of love making WTF! where did that logic in this come from!? And my second issue is with the main protagonist or in this case a half crazy doctor who had no prior record of being mentally ill and I get that a lot of people who have been turned by Rogues go Rogue themselves but she actually did nothing to explain why he had gone mad to begin with only that Dressler told him that other Immortals were bad or something along that line she didn't explain why he attacked her his own sister-in-law yeah they gave you a kind of explanation of why he may have done it but again why? He also went as far as to act like he hated her guts when as far as I could tell they barely even talked to each other that much before this... Anyway I feel like the ending was like scrambled eggs the story was running really smooth and was actually really good like better than the last few books by a long shot and then the last hour just ruined it! It's like she got tired of writing it or just wanted to sabotage it I think that the story should developed more instead of cramming all of that into last hour. like for instance maybe some kind of issue with Dressler being resolved or at least a lead Maybe and instead of the doctor going psycho and attacking his son and wife which by the way I totally saw coming! how about this Dressler doing it for the doctor because again he had no prior mental illness and Dressler was certifiable but the husband feeling guilty for dragging his family into a bad situation because hello a father should feel guilty for harming their loved ones which maybe could have I don't know slowed him down enough for the Neighbors to save his wife and child but they were already turning it just didn't make sense that the father would do it in this storyline set up again it might have if she explained it and one last thing... time skips are never good in the story lines like this at least give the guy some hell!!! he left her for a freaking month-and-a-half and she just forgave him what the heck!!! he should have had to do something to prove he was trustworthy and wasn't going to just drop her the next time an issue arose!!! this is a sad day for me because I have to find another writer to place on my top five because this one no longer cares how her stories end just as long as they end...

Enjoyed the book, not the narrator
I love the Argeneau novels and I've listened to the last four on Audible and this was my least favorite narrator. It was mostly because of the inconsistency of the accents and the fact that all of a sudden in this reading Marguerite goes from having a mostly British accent to having an Italian accent just because her husband is Italian. The narrator was also kind of dry. But as far as the book goes, I enjoyed this new twist with the set up of the new bad guys waiting in the wings.

Very enjoyable story :)
4 stars This was a very good story. I liked Santo and Petronella and enjoyed their story. Petronella is a history professor that has an unusual background. Petronella (aka Pet) grew up in China and was the step-daughter to an immortal. Pet's family was killed except for a sister and after the both moved to the US and were adopted. Pet is single and her nephew is the closest she has to a kid. Santo is a civil engineer for his family's construction business and is also is in a band with his cousins. Santo is also an Immortal, which are humans from the city of Atlantis that have nanobots that give them traits that are similar to the vampires of legend, including their need for blood. Santo is in the US and is helping with a Rogue situation. When the story begins, Pet is staying at her sisters' place to watch her nephew, Parker, while his parents are out of town. Pet and Parker quickly meet some new people staying on their street, Marguerite Argeneau, her husband and a few cousins (and Santo is one of the cousins). Pet knows about immortals and her experiences haven't always been good so she freaks when she recognizes what Marguerite and her family are. Marguerite realizes the issue (due to her ability to read minds) and reassures Pet that they're no bad immortals and are only there because they're hunting a rogue that they believe is in the area. Pet is comforted by Marguerite's reassurance and the family's actions in general but she's worried about the rogue nearby and her need to protect Parker. Santos tries to get close to Pet but he's had a rough past and it's made him rather solitary and very laconic. His lack of communication skills cause issues with Pet though and Santos has to step out of his comfort zone to make any progress with Pet. There is drama, part from the rogue issues and some from Pet's own issues combined with the interpersonal issues that arise as Santo attempts to court her. Thankfully, everything gets worked out and the story ends with Santo and Pet happily together and heading towards and HEA. This was a very enjoyable story. I liked Pet pretty well. She was a good heroine but made some moves I thought were caused more by plot needs than anything. Santo was a good hero once he learned to talk, hehe. There were a few points in the story that didn't see completely wrapped up and that bothered me a bit but it wasn't anything too major. Overall, I enjoyed the story very much and liked the characters so I would recommend it (and the series). :)

Good Story, Good Narration
Brian Pallino sounds like he's trying to be quiet while he reads. Marguerite has an Italian accent rather than British, but Pallino does a good job with the story in emotion and editing, as well as his Italian and Russian accents. Sands does a good job giving Santo his story and introducing a possible future antagonist. Spoiler Alert: Sands has a small appearance of Dr. Dressler in this story, and all of the sudden this brilliant, mad, scientist isn't smart enough to have a plan other than running to his cousin's house. Then he turns the dad without any information as to why. Where is the depth? I know she can do better than this. It just feels lazy.
