About this listen

On a summer's evening, Robert and Greta Gerdner are shot dead at their isolated home in the Devon countryside.

DI Wesley Peterson suspects the execution-style murders might be linked to Robert's past career in the police - until Robert's name is found on a list of people who've been sent tickets anonymously for a tour of Darkhole Grange, a former asylum on Dartmoor. When his friend, archaeologist Neil Watson, finds the skeleton of a woman buried in a sealed chamber dating back to the 15th century at his nearby dig, Wesley wonders whether there might be a connection between the mysterious stone cell and the tragic events at Darkhole Grange. With the clock ticking, Wesley must solve the puzzle before the next person on the list meets a terrible end....

I’ve listened or read every book love the series, feel like I’ve got to know all the characters - more please!

Love this series

I had liked all the Wesley Peterson books over the years but decided to have it on audible this time rather than kindle. What a shame. The narrator sounds far too old for the characters and I am not enjoying it. Won’t bother again.

Narration is awful

An excellent plot, however the narrator is so awful I’ve had to give up.
Firstly, every voice is the same (including Gerry’s Liverpool accent, which is non existent).
The result is that it is hard to work out who is speaking, and the lack of nuanced voices really grates.
The second issue is the narrator sounds about thirty years too old for the characters.
Presumably these recordings are directed and produced, so how this got made is beyond me when there are so many excellent actors who could bring the characters to life (and not go ‘up’ at the end of every character’s sentences). I found myself gritting my teeth.
Such a shame, but I won’t be buying an more audible Wesley Peterson books with this narrator.

Good plot but appalling narration

Another excellent Wesley Peterson murder mystery, I love this series. With an intricate story line and believable characters it is a great read.
