It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

The Scottish Highlands; a sparse, mountainous region some say was carved by the gods themselves. Few places are as untouched as this harsh, prehistoric landscape. It is no place for man. But nestled deep within the wilderness lies a cottage, and behind that cottage is a hill.... When a group of friends travel up from Manchester and hire the cottage for a weekend of boozy fun, they discover a threat far greater than the harsh landscape and unwelcoming weather.

The world is suddenly thrown into chaos as a research project is sabotaged and the dead come alive to feast on the living - it seems like an old story, doesn’t it? The Apocalypse Crusade is not that book. You are not suddenly thrust into a world gone mad. Instead, you get front-row seats to how the sh-t went down. In real time you are witness to the agony and the horror…and the terrible stupidity that made it all possible.

Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. Greed, terrorism, and simple bad luck conspire to bring mankind to its knees as a viral infection spreads out of control, reducing those infected to undead horrors that feed upon the rest. Chilling and absorbing read.
An outstanding edition featuring the first three books in the Safe Haven series, filled with fast paced, non stop action, and beautifully narrated by Kim Bretton. From the first page I was sucked into an adventure with Mike and his family as he struggles to lead them to safety and family, gathering friends and enemies along the way, he faces unspeakable evil, in hair raising situations. This heart pounding instalment shouldn't be missed, it's a shining example of the zombie genre and deserving of more than just 5 stars and one credit, I absolutely loved this book and cannot recommend it highly enough. I received this book 📚 in exchange for my honest review.

Well written but feels like a young adult story
These three zom-poc books are well written. The story moves at a good pace and contains a suitable variety of both action sequences and character development. Kim Bretton is a good narrator, clear speaking and skillful at giving distinct voices to each member of the cast.
However, I won't be continuing with the series. For me, this feels as if it is aimed at young adults. I am pleased with not having to listen to gratuitous descriptions of the gore and violence, but the atmosphere of fear essential to such a story is missing. I'm not sure whether this is because of the narration or the writing. Bretton is good but her voice doesn't seem to convey the dark emotions very well, she always sounds cheerful and chirpy even when the worst is happening.
Indeed, at the start of book one Samantha's manner was described as "too saccharine" and this perfectly describes my feelings about Safe Haven.
If you are a young adult, or want your zom-poc with the intangible sense of terror removed, then this may well suit you because the quality of the narration and writing are very good. For me, however, it is missing an essential quality and as a result was a disappointment. I wanted to love this because of the quality, but sadly it wasn't to be.

Not for me
If you like the military and survival components of Zombie Apoc novels, this review is for you. If you're not a fan of the military and prefer socially conscious literature, please stop reading this as I would not want to offend you.
I've only written a few negative reviews, but out of the 1000+ audio books I've listened to, I believe that I've experienced my first novel where the author was completely unsuited to the genre or topic. Here are some facts, then I'll get on to personal opinion; non-zombie zombies, warehouse worker attains Operator level skills overnight via osmosis, anti-military slant, protagonist is an evil anti-christian convict who's presented as a saint, repeated lessons in virtue, young adultish yet alarming psychotic and evil, women tortured, misogyny overdone, complete lack of masculinity.
Yes, that's a harsh list. Before I go on, let me say something kind; this author has an excellent command of the English language. Before I explain my opinions linked to the above list, let me say that I'm a disabled vet who listens to A LOT of audio books. I've read literally hundreds of ZomApoc novels. I've read some real rags, but I try to stay objective and find value somewhere. I couldn't do that with this book.
Explanation of list; *Non-zombie zombies* - this is done often, but in this book the zombies are so secondary and downplayed that you forget about them. *Civi becomes Operator* - we've seen this before, but not to this degree. The main character has no training or background in combat, fighting, survival, or leadership and is suddenly an expert who is followed and worshipped by Soldiers with multiple combat tours. *Anti-Military Slant* - the only "good guy" military personnel are those who deserted and hate the military. All other military personnel are evil, racist, and misogynistic. *Evil protagonist presented as saint* - this is a guy murdered in cold blood (before apoc), beat a priest nearly to death, is a convicted felon, openly hates God, yet he's elevated to sainthood due to his social consciousness and honor (though it's a completely alien concept of honor). *Repeated lessons in virtue* - about every 3 pages there's a thinly veiled lesson or monolog on social consciousness. I don't mind this usually, all authors hold up their virtues to some degree, but in this case it was heavily overdone to the point of being insulting. *Young adultish yet psychotic* - 90% of this series has a "young adult" feel to it, then there are dark transitions to a level of gore and psychotic inner dialog that shocked me more than anything that even seen from even the darkest of authors. The horror had nothing to do with the zombies. Again, you mostly forget about them. The horror was torture, rape, and a seething hatred I've never seen any other author convey with such horrible detail. Most of it was out of the blue and had little to do with the story. This is not for your young adult. There are shocking things in the mind of this author I can't unsee. *Women tortured* - we see this in other books, but not to this level. Very disturbing and anger inducing. If you have a shred of honor or chivalry, I hope you're not exposed to this. *Misogyny overdone* - this seemed like it was done for the purposes of another social lesson, but it's disturbing, excessive, and frequent. The "bad guys" all "enslave women to cook and clean" and have long monologs about how women are worthless. This is not presented as a cultural predisposition, but rather as a general prejudice and hatred of females. The "good guys" are subservient to women, defer to them in all things, and elevate them to the point of loudly announcing their inferiority to women. This is overdone to the point of being very disturbing. *Complete lack of masculinity* - disdain for traditional masculinity is obvious in this series.
I kept listening and hoping for something redeemable about this series but never found it. I wish I'd stopped after the first hour. I didn't write this review to bash the author (if you are reading this sir, I apologize for my differing outlook). I wrote this review because I wish a like-minded reader would have warned me before I read it. I can't recommend this series.

Good Series
First off I will say that I purchased this set because I will not waste my credits on anything under 10 hours when there are more than two books in a series. I decided to give this series a try although I have been hesitant to listen to books read by female narrators. I just can't get over how male characters are voiced, the deep, gruff and throaty tones given them by women narrators. BUT this book changed that ! I think Kim Bretton did and outstanding job with this series. I will continue to listen to more of the Safe Haven books because of her. She doesn't go over the top with her characters, its sort of a natural intonation that she lends the boys that make this book awesome. I will easily put her next to Mr. R.C. Bray as top narrators on AUDIBLE. go ahead and give this series a try.

I’ve searched endlessly for a zombie apocalypse series that could come close to Sarah Lyons Fleming’s series’, to no avail, until now. The first 3 books are engrossing, riveting, and non-stop, can’t put down thrill ride. Narration is spot on in bringing out the characters as written. Looking forward to Books 4, 5, and 6.

You need to get these books!
One of those rare zombie books where you not just get gore and guts but also a very good plot, likable heroes and a lot of action on top of well developed characters. I just couldn’t put it down!

Safe Haven Box set 1 Thru 3
A fast paced read that had me on the edge of my seat. I love Zombie reads and this series is one that definitely brings the story to live. I felt like I was watching this on a movie screen as I listened. You can just picture these characters in the scenes the Author has brought the the world building so well that you feel you no the characters. And Narrator does a fantastic job at bringing each character and there individualality out. This is definitely a must listen. And hopefully one that gets put on the big screne with a few other fabulous others with great work. Shauna Joesten

Not worth the credit. Redundant Story Line
Overall it could have been a good story and I was excited after the first book, but it’s the same situations each book. Mike gets mad rushes to find family and we do it all over again, and again and again. We didn’t get to see any other characters grow or hear their side. The narrator was great with the exception of the American character Lucy sounded more like a winey school girl with a cold.

Safe Haven Box Set
Great series! I loved this the first time I listened! The only thing that could make it better, is having the three books together in one set! I recommend this series and Christopher Artinian's other series.

His books are the greatest.
I really really enjoy his writing. His stories are captivating. I can listen to them over and over. Also Kim Bretton is an awesome narrator.
