Summary

From the multi-award-winning author Christopher Artinian, comes the first book of the post-apocalyptic zombie series people are calling "gripping", "fast paced and full of action", "very realistic", "captivating", "inventive", and "emotional".

The planet has succumbed to a monstrous virus. Those who die from the infection return as savage predators hell-bent on spreading the virus to the rest of the human population. The UK and Ireland are the last hold-outs, but when the infrastructure supporting their self-imposed quarantine collapses, it's everyone for themselves.

Mike Fletcher and his sister Emma live in Leeds. With the city’s streets overrun by the dead, their only option is to flee. They take their younger siblings and set off to find their last remaining relative in the far north-west of Scotland.

As they travel north they encounter other survivors - but who can they trust? Their terrifying journey will require them to confront horrors both human and inhuman, in the outside world and within themselves. Will they ever find a safe haven?

Safe haven rise of the rams

This is an incredible book. This book sucked me right in and am ready to continue the journey. Christopher Artinian has an amazing ability to put us right in the story and Kim Bretton’s narration is wonderful and enhanced the characters. 5 stars for everything I would give more but I can’t 5 is the limit

Leaves you ravenous for more!

A gripping read that leaves you ravenous for more. I loved this book, it had me hooked from the start and hanging on every word, Kim's softer, melodious voice brings more depth and emotion to the book. The colourful characters and surprising plot twists had me reaching for book 2 and ready for a series binge read! I can't recommend this series highly enough, it definitely deserves 5 stars across the board. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

The beginning...

Safe Haven-Rise of the RAMs (Book 1 of the Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Horror Series) by Christopher Artinian and narrated by Kim Bretton is the zombie series you should be listening to! If you enjoy a mix of character-driven and plot-driven elements to your zombie story, this is the book for you. If you are looking for a new zombie series, this is it! I highly recommend. 5 stars all around.

What’s it about? The story starts out in the midst of the zompoc. Mike and Emma learn they are not safe in the quarantine zones and they, along with their younger siblings make their way to their grandmother’s house in Scotland. Unfortunately the trip is a difficult one as they meet some good and some no-so-good people along the way. You will find yourself rooting for Mike and his group. You get a nice variety of zombie scenes and character development. The characters are not perfect and the development is great.

The narrator, Kim Bretton, was fabulous. I’ve been listening to her for all of Christopher’s series and gladly jumped on the chance to listen with Kim in the narrator seat. She is an asset to the story with narration.

This is a re-listen as I was given the opportunity to and I’ve forgotten how great it is until I started again. Overall I highly recommend, especially if you’re looking for a new Z book, looking to venture into the zompoc genre, or just looking for something new.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: death (multiple ways- people and Z's), torture of a man, kidnapping of women/girls for sex, swearing throughout (f, s, or similar words), guns, knives, and like things.

*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!

Amazing

This is one of the best series ever! Loved every min of it! You will become obsessed with this zombie world. Check out the End of Everything too because the characters will all interact later on. Get ready to fall in love with them all.
Kim Bretton is perfection when it comes to narration!

A series I can listen to over and over

Mike and Emma along with their two younger siblings, are thrown into a world of chaos and fear. People are getting sick and dying. Yeah that's pretty normal. What isn't normal is they're coming back to life with a hunger that can't be satisfied. I have read a lot of Zombie Apocalypse books and this is by far one of the better series. The author gives you characters that you love and characters that you hate, choosing different paths to accomplish the same thing. Surviving. Christopher Artinian and Kim Bretton make quite the combo when it comes to story telling. I highly recommend this series Safe Haven along with the fantastic companion series End of Everything.

Rise of the Rams

I don't usually re-read books since there are so many that I want to read. However, this is the fourth time that I have read this one. That should tell you something! It is also one of the first zompoc books that I read and started my search for the next great book in the genre.

The book follows the trials of Mike & his siblings, Emma, Sammy & Jake, as they try to live through the horrors of the Reanimated Corpses, better knows as RAMS. After their "safe" place in Leeds seems to be safe no longer, Mike decides they should try to reach the relative safety & isolation of their Grandmother's place in Scotland.

All of the characters are well-developed, the action is non-stop and there are plenty of brains & gore for the zombie lover. There are also enough poignant moments to make you look for a tissue. The emotion in the first chapter is enough to have you crying. But, there are also moments of levity. When Mike enters a library looking for a map, he encounters three people. When he asks who they are, the woman of the trio announces, "We're the Librarians!" I love it! If you love to read "zombie books", you have to read this one! It grabs you on the very first page & never lets you go!

One reason that I keep re-reading this book (as well as the rest of the series) is the great narration by Kim Bretton. Her performance just blows me away each and every time! It's like a cast of many instead of just her one voice. I hope that this amazing duo continues in their collaboration for a long, long time!

great listen

I have read this book but listening to it really brings these characters to life. Chris' books always pulls me in and with Kim narrowing them, well she helps being them to life.

Excellent book!

The writing of this book is superb. The characters are extremely well done and feel so real. The terrifying situation of the RAMS is palpable and gripping. Mike is my favorite character in this book. I highly recommend this this book if you are interested in dystopian books. Christopher’s writing is extremely well done.
