About this listen
Step into a world of quiet workshops and candlelit corners, where the day's final tasks carry a touch of wonder and every breath leads gently toward sleep.
In this collection of five soothing bedtime stories, craftspeople close their doors for the night. An apothecary prepares her last herbal draughts. A mapmaker charts one final coastline. A clockmaker winds the last timepiece in his care. A glassblower shapes twilight into form. A blacksmith lets the forge’s heat fade to memory.
Each story in the Quiet Magic series is crafted to ease your mind, slow your breath, and prepare you for rest. With soft imagery, gentle pacing, and cozy magical realism, this volume is ideal for bedtime, relaxation, or simply winding down after a long day.
Includes:
- The Apothecary’s Evening Preparations
- The Mapmaker’s Final Border
- The Clockmaker’s Final Round
- The Glassblower’s Twilight Vessel
- The Blacksmith’s Cooling Forge
As expected, I found the narrators dulcet tones had a somewhat soporific effect, and very soon found myself relaxed and sleepy. But that didn't last long; I didn't get to sleep.
Much to my surprise, I found that I was becoming interested in the stories as much as the narration. These aren't bodice ripping roller coasters, nor even tales with decisive narrative arc, but more are meanderings, taking the listener on a gentle exploration. A bit like a relaxed contemplative Sunday afternoon wander.
What intrigues me though is that the detail in the writing is phenomenal. Every single sentence has been crafted and can almost stand alone as literary art; indeed the clarity and colour of the imagery starts to counteract the pathway to slumber (get me!) as each line deserves to be listened to rather than simply be allowed to wash over you as as you succumb to sleep.
I think it's fair to say that the stories themselves are somewhat contrived - as I said, not a genre I typically select - but the writing is beautiful and deserves to be appreciated. For me it took a couple of listens before I could let the writing take more of a back seat and let the perfectly weighted narration help me to drift off to sleep.
So use it for bedtime calm, or simply to just to appreciate the prose. I'm off to bed!
Relaxing, buttery soft narration & elegant prose.
