About this listen

The highly anticipated conclusion to the Stolen Heir duology by no. 1 Sunday Times bestselling author Holly Black.

An imprisoned prince. A vengeful queen. And a battle that will determine the future of Elfhame.

Prince Oak is paying for his betrayal. Imprisoned in the icy north and bound to the will of a monstrous new queen, he must rely on charm and calculation to survive. With High King Cardan and High Queen Jude ready to use any means necessary to retrieve their stolen heir, should Oak attempt to regain the trust of the girl he's always loved, or remain loyal to Elfhame and hand over the means to end her reign - even if it means ending Wren too...

With war looming and treachery lurking in every corner, neither Oak's guile nor his wit will be enough to keep everyone he loves alive. He will have some terrible choices to make.

For some reason the audio volume kept going up and down between chapters, not when it changed to whispers, but rather the overall volume of the narration, like a bad editing. Regarding the story, it felt rushed, unpolished and a bit of a mess. Usually the main character develops better instincts during her stories, in this case, my perception is that the maturity of the character had to keep being clarified, rather than show in his decisions and actions. The obvious conclusion could be drawn much too soon, which made the book feel like it was dragging a bad narrative. It was like listening to a story that had the same background as the other novels in the collection but that for some reason was aimed at a 10yo rather than a teenager or young adult. I’m disappointed.

Disappointed at both the story and the audio

Absolutely loved it! The series introduces nee characters while nicely developing old ones. Looking forward to her next book in the series!

This is probably my least favorite of the 2 books in the duology. It does have charm though and I love the beautiful madness of the fairies and how well Holly Black twists it into the story. I loved that she brought the hags more into perspective and gave them a more prominent role of the story.
I love Wren and like Oak, but god, if the saying "I'll do it tomorrow ", was a theme for a book, this would probably be the main theme and it drove me nuts!

Let me tell you a story about Hags
