Summary

Combining modern genetic science and evolutionary biology, The Primal Blueprint dispels a number of the myths that modern medicine and conventional wisdom have come to accept as fact. Author Mark Sisson takes the listener on a fascinating journey through human evolution, comparing the life and robust health of our hunter-gatherer ancestors with a day in the life of a modern family - exposing potential health issues that arise from trying to do the right things living in the 21st century.

Sisson offers a solution in 10 empowering "Blueprint Lifestyle Laws" that can help us reprogram our genes away from disease and pain towards a direction of effortless weight loss, vibrant health and boundless energy. The listener learns how the right high-fat diet can actually help one lose weight; how popular low-fat, grain-based diets might trigger illness, disease, and lifelong weight gain; why doing too much cardio exercise might actually suppress the immune system and how some of today's most common medications might make a health condition even worse.

Interesting, but book version preferred for the material

Good read, but I preferred the written version to grasp the diet and workout suggestions.

Primal intro

A great read - ideal for anyone looking to find out what going 'primal' involves - it's a lifestyle not just a style of eating!

The Primal Blueprint

This book should be read by everyone, especially those who get caught up in the everyday struggles of modern living. Whether you agree or not with the information provided, it should at least open your eyes to a few aspects of your life that have been neglected or could be improved.

Fairly average if you have knowledge about nutrition

I have never had any formal education on nutrition but I feel most of this is common for anyone who has researched a paleo or keto diet.

I felt I could agree with Mark's arguments for nutrition easier than exercise as he's nullifying a whole load of research on chronic high performance loads gained at a gradual pace etc. I would agree certain types of chronic cardio is not great for the body however. I would have liked some references to published research where he has gathered his conclusions from.

For anyone overweight or just generally lacking health and nutrition knowledge this is a valuable listen.

Paleo "Good"

Every time I get determined to lose weight I follow the same routine with success. When talking about my methods with friends. My brother told me that what I was actually doing was akin to the Paleo diet.

The book is short, well informed and full of uncomplicated scientific breakdowns so people with no prior knowledge of science or nutrition can understand them.

If I had to criticise, I would argue that it is not long enough! Another slight criticism is where the author offers a relatively subjective argument against a critic who argues (wrongly) that the paleo diet is elitist and expensive... For instance one could afford to cook these types of food in a slow cooker in bulk with little effort, minimising the cost to the consumer.

This book has provided me with an explanation of how I am able to shed weight, gain muscle and feel better so exponentially, when I try to lose weight.

Learn while on the road!

Where does The Primal Blueprint rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Ive been a podcast listener for about a year now and this for me is the next step in educating myself whilst on the road "working" this book is brief to the point and is my go to book for a Back to basics approach to my now preferred lifestyle....... Primal / Keto / Wild

What about Mark Sisson’s performance did you like?

Mark is a leader in the primal movement who's been there seen it done it wrote the book, and now narrated the book. a true go to guy for results.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes, and i continue to listen to this book (3 times now end to end) long car journeys for work!

Any additional comments?

Can't rate audio books highly enough........ forget the radio and CD's! Audio books all the way now on the long (6hrs) drive to and from Scotland each week!

AMAZING LIFE STYLE CHOICE

If you could sum up The Primal Blueprint in three words, what would they be?

Fun, Creative, Carb-less

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no. It was great information, but it is best to break it down, listen here and there and take in the info when you are in the mindset to learn. This is not an entertainment book, it is factual and has very good info.

Any additional comments?

Make your body a fat burning machine. Stop relying on carbs and sugar for energy! The teachings of this book were so much fun to implement in my life! I enjoyed playing with the idea of, a caveman couldn't eat this, or this is definitely something a caveman would have eaten. Take out the fact that they had no way of cooking meat, that is our advantage living in today's world. That being said, there were no ovens so bread, cake, baked goods are a no go. I lost 16 pounds, while still enjoying everything that I ate just by playing with the ideas in this book!! I ate less carbs, more veggies and meat, Generally there is a list of foods and things that are able to be eaten as a hunter gatherer. Nuts, fruits, veggies, meat, fish, etc. There are also the easy quick and tasty protein shake meal replacements too (again, modern age)! There is a health concern, however, with hormone injected meat and what not. Mark Sisson is definitely aware of these concerns and offers different sources to purchase your food from. Also with purchasing fruits and veggies to avoid chemicals and other bad things. There is a whole movement with the primal blue print and Mark's website is FULL of helpful information for anyone interested in pursuing this lifestyle! I am truly grateful for coming across this book and the information in it. A word of warning, this is definitely not for those who cannot live without breads, or baked things. I still enjoy them now and then, however, do not eat them as much as i did in the past. It has contributed to my success toward my target weight goal! 15 more pounds to go and I am at my target weight! Make your body a fat burning machine instead of a carb and sugar burning machine! You may just have as much fun with it as I did!

Good intro, but does not go over science...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, I enjoyed listening to the Primal Blueprint, but expected it to go into the science more than it did. I've read Robb Wolf's Paleo Solution, which went into a lot of detail of the background and science of paleo and was expecting similar. This is a great intro and would recommend the Paleo Solution to get more into the nerdy aspect of the paleo lifestyle.

This info makes sense!

I didn't like very much how the information is given, too much chemistry and assumptions from time to time ( like western people eating better than other countries, yeah right) BUT! The information makes sense to me. We have evolved certain way and that's the way our bodies like. I'm gonna follow these 10 rules :)

Brilliant

Makes perfect sense to the point that it is embarrassing to have fell victim to the hype and the marketing of the food industry and big pharmaceutical companies.

Great for Paleo Beginners

A little repetitive in areas, but overall Mark provides the fundamental understand and reasoning into the Paleo Lifestyle. It's simple, yet accurate and I'm not craving anything and I'm never hungry after meals!

Useful resource

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This would be better if it was unabridged.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I need more information.

What aspect of Mark Sisson’s performance would you have changed?

I would not change it.

Could you see The Primal Blueprint being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It would not work.

Any additional comments?

I want more details about this program.
