Summary

The Pilgrimage paved the way to Paulo Coehlo's international best-selling novel The Alchemist. In many ways, these two volumes are companions - to truly comprehend one, you must read the other.

Step inside this captivating account of Paulo Coehlo's pilgrimage along the road to Santiago. This fascinating parable explores the need to find one's own path. In the end, we discover that the extraordinary is always found in the ordinary and simple ways of everyday people. Part adventure story, part guide to self-discovery, this compelling tale delivers the perfect combination of enchantment and insight.

Saddened

I love this author. I hate the narrator. I know it’s personal choice but really it’s the most annoying dull voice I have ever heard. I am trying to return the book.

Difficult to follow

I found this book quite difficult to follow. I wanted a story, and in parts it was. But in others it veered off into visualisation exercises, breathing exercises, and other weird stuff!!!

Is this a true story?!

I read two reviews that convinced me to read the book:

1)saying you should read the Alchemist and The Pilgrimage together! And I had loved the Alchemist

2) someone saying they were expecting a story, but on top of the story there were self-help visualisation, media ration, decision making exercises. I jump right in!

And this book exceeded all expectations!

I like Paulo Coelho very much but sadly...

I just couldn't settle into the book because of the narrator. His voice is, blunt, flat and robotic.

Didn't do it for me

My friends had told me they loved this book but I could not get to the end of it and I feel the reading didn't help but the book itself is also not for me. It seemed the same voice was being used for anyone who was not the main character but I couldn't feel any sense of drama or emotion.

religious travelogue

I'm not a religious person, yet spiritually speaking this book still left an indelible mark, thanks to coelhos unique writing style.

Twodlle

I bought this book because I liked the alchemist and have also walked the Camino. Having listened to it I can only say that it is utter rubbish. There are some interesting concepts but the sickly over emphasised narration and flowery metaphors are nauseating. As for the idea that the Camino is in anyway difficult to follow or walk, it really isn't. There is accommodation everywhere and the idea that you could spend 7 days walking to roncavelles is ridiculous. My 70 year old mum navigated it in 7 hours...
