This is no shifter story, and I’m not his prey, although I wouldn’t say no if he asked for a little taste. I’ve been saddled with interviewing with the beast to secure my new dream job in publishing, but his intense stares and monosyllabic responses are making my job impossible. I just need to get this over with and move on to navigating my new life and career. I’ve got this, right?

Story
It’s been two years since the divorce papers slapped Jenna in the face, and it’s high time to dive back in. Step one: find a romance-novel-worthy man for a hot summer fling. How hard could it be? But disastrously bad flirting, a failed honky-tonk hookup, and a mix-up with one of Sunview’s finest have Jenna seriously doubting if this is all worth it. Maybe she’s better off leaving the world of love and sex to others...or maybe, she’s just looking in the wrong place.

My love story all started with a letter. Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for. You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months. So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far. While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father.

Leo: How my brother talked me into ditching our security team and embarking on this ridiculous adventure, I haven't a clue. But it's my duty to keep the idiot safe - something made even more difficult now that we're stranded in the middle of nowhere with a local mechanic as our only hope...Ruby: With one look at Leo Baxter, I know down to my cherry-painted toenails that he and his pain-in-the ass brother are nothing but trouble. Given my family's dire circumstances, however, I've got little choice but to take these rich country-club rejects up on their offer.

I’d like to preface this by saying it was never my intention to ever get involved in a workplace romance, let alone get involved with the most surly, agitating, and pompous man I’ve ever met who just so happens to be my new friend’s brother. My intentions were to show students how English and reading books could actually be fun and make a new life for myself in the suburbs of Chicago.

There were three things I knew about Capo Macchiavello: He was gorgeous. He was reclusive. He was considered one of New York's most savage animals. And he wanted me as his wife. A simple arrangement - you do for me, I do for you. Nothing owed, no expectations. Except for one: never leave. Life was never that simple, though. By the age of 21, I was parentless, jobless, and homeless, and I had come to learn the hard way that nothing was ever free. Even kindness comes with strings.

I’d never forgotten him - a man I’d yet to meet. Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break. Until one day it did. Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one - one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing. Griffin forgave me, and we were able to rekindle our childhood connection.

I promised her dad I wouldn't sleep with his daughter....That was a mistake. Declan has gotten himself into a bit of a bind. His long-time assistant has recently retired, and every assistant brought in to take her place has been chased off by his poor behavior. But as luck would have it, Emmi has also recently been chased off by a badly behaved boss. Her father, Declan’s business partner, suggests she work as his assistant until he finds someone else for the position.
Summary
New town, new job, new neighbor...new crush.
I’ve got a serious problem, and it goes by the name of Ted Jones. Even his name is nerdy! Combine that with his glasses, lean runner’s frame, crazy smarts, and superhero addiction, and he’s got my lady engine revving hard.
What can I say? I’ve got a thing for hot nerds.
But our shy glances and awkward exchanges in the elevator aren’t going to cut it. This nerd is mine; he just doesn’t know it yet.

Stand alone rom-com
I recommend this book to people (like me) whose favorite part of the story is seeing how the characters get together followed by a nice HFN. And to people who like stories with pets and/or average characters (as opposed to billionaires, celebrities or men in uniform). And stories where ladies are capable of saving their own selves, whether or not they have to. And to people who might like those things, but aren't sure yet. This book was loosely connected to The Way You Are (Carolina Connections Series), but it's not required to read that book first. While this is the first book in the Carolina Kisses series, there's not a lot of extra characters in this one so I'm interested to see where the rest of the series goes. Amanda Stribling and David Black did a really fantastic job bringing the characters to life in the Audible version.

a cute romance
Ted is the typical nerd, and Haley is his new neighbor. They are both shy and awkward with new people. I found myself encouraging them to talk to each other already. When they do finally talk, things take off quickly. I loved the awkwardness of these two. Ted knew she was his, he just needed to talk to her once. Haley knew Ted was her, if she could only talk to him. The was worth it. I completely related to the characters. I love geeky nerds so much that I married one myself. I got lost in this story and loved everything about it. Amanda Stribling and David Black are a wonderful narrating team. I enjoy what they narrate. Amanda brought out the shyness and determination of Hailey. Amanda really brought Hailey to life. David really brought out the awkwardness of Ted. Amanda and David narrated Ted and Hailey as I know nerds to be. I really related to these characters and I really enjoyed the narration.

Fabulous topsy turvy romance
Absolutely loved this story and the narrators did an excellent job in making it come to life. Cute slow burn romance
I love books where the hero and heroine are nerds/geeks and this book was no different (I too have an abnormal obsession with superheroes. haha). Anyway, this was cute read. Haley and Ted both had really funny internal musings which made me giggle. I loved Tank, Haley's dog. And overall, the author did a great job making the characters likable and didn't draw out their miscommunications too long, although it did take the majority of the book before they realized they were wrong with each other. Still, a good slow burn book. I borrowed the book from KU and requested and received the audiobook. This book has both a female and male narrator and both were good. Amanda Stribling is perfect- bright and cheeky with pacing that is perfect for this type of romantic comedy. David Black was good as well. It’s the first time I’ve listened to his narration and he did such a good job playing the slightly nerdy character.

Terrific Story & Narration🎧 Fun & Enjoyable!
This is an enjoyable and sweet RomCom. Sylvie Stewart has a wonderful writing style, her stories are captivating and easy to get lost in and lose track of time. “The Nerd Next Door” is Haley and Ted’s story, it is a light-hearted and fun story that will put a smile on your face. Haley relocated to start her new job at the Coastal Veterinary Clinic, Ted Jones, the hot nerdy guy in her building caught her eye, she just has to find a way to talk to him. Ted is super shy, he finds Haley attractive but he seems to get tongue tied and off balance every time she is near. I adored these two characters, Haley is funny and full of personality, love her dog Tank. Ted is the spitting image of a geeky nerd, smart yet clueless. I loved how easy it was for him to talk to her when he thought romance was off the table for him. They were perfect for each other and great together. I loved how their story played out, it was well plotted with plenty of drama, a bit of angst, some great humor all leading up to a great romance. Sylvie Stewart, thank you for another terrific story. Amanda Stripling and David Black are terrific narrators and voice artists. They bring these characters to life, giving each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they project the characters emotions into their performance. Amanda’s portrayal of Haley was spot on, as was David’s portrayal of Ted, they sounded just as you pictured them in the story. They did a great job on the secondary characters as well. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the terrific listen🎧

Hot for neighbor!
A light-hearted and humorous friends-to-lovers romance between two awkward neighbors that have the hots for each other and neither one of them knows it. I enjoyed how Haley and Ted fumbled through their shyness and misunderstandings, causing some embarrassingly funny moments. The comic book references were a great inclusion to really bring out the geekiness of this couple, leading to such a sweet and endearing ending. The dual narration by Amanda Stribling and David Black was well done. They really portrayed the awkwardness of each character, as well as delivered on the comedic aspect of the story.

Sylvie Stewart did a good job with this cute story about two neighbors and their constant miscommunications because of the instant attraction they had for each other. The story also demonstrated the negative effects of sexual harassment and damage it can have on both sides. Amanda Stribling and David Black are both new narrators to me. Both did a good job with their portrayals of the hero and heroine.

Adorable, Funny, and Outrageous
This rom-com is a winner! It is one of my favorite Sylvie Stewart audiobooks. I even love it as much as the author’s Kings of Carolina series and “Game Changer”. It is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy and friends-to-lovers romance. It put a smile on my face many times. I totally recommend this audiobook to everyone who likes a steamy rom-com. Like the funny heroine Hailey, I found her nerd next door to be extremely attractive with his tweed jacket, a Ph.D. in ancient literature, a fascination with superheroes, and a lean physique. Mmm! Sylvie Stewart has created a delectable hero and a smart, bubbly heroine who is perfect for him. Hailey is a veterinarian who just moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. The guy next door in her apartment building is Ted Jones. He is her ideal man, a hot nerd and tweed-wearing college professor. I think they are both about 30 years old. While their relationship development was held up for a while by a misunderstanding, I think that the nature of the miscommunication is realistic and it did not bother me much. The ending was extremely satisfying. There is some steamy sex and some outrageous humor while still having a light, funny tone to the story. I also love Hailey’s cute dog and her best friend Liv. In addition, the details of both of the lead characters' jobs seemed quite realistic. The story was told in first person perspective with dual narration in alternating chapters. Amanda Stribling narrated Hailey’s chapters, and David Black narrated Ted's chapters. They both gave absolutely wonderful performances! Their sense of comic timing was so great that they perfectly conveyed the humor. I have listened to one of Amanda Stribling's other good performances, but she really impressed me with this one. Her wonderfully pleasant and vivacious voice perfectly embodied the lovable, relatable, and hilarious heroine. David Black's voice was also perfect for the sexy but slightly awkward hero. I will definitely listen to more audiobooks from each of these narrators. I requested and received a free audio code from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Laugh out loud funny!
Ted and Haley's story had me laughing out loud. There were some things in this book that I just couldn't but to chuckle to myself. These two were so into each other from afar, but neither knew how to approach the other. Thanks goodness for Haley's best friend who got them to start talking! I thought Ted was so adorkable and the way these two danced around each other was fun. This was a really quick read and really quite a fun story. I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the narrators really brought these characters to life and made the funny moment hysterical! Loved it!

Another Laugh Out Loud Story!
“The Nerd Next Door” audiobook by Sylvie Stewart is another laugh out loud story. We originally met Haley in “The Way You Are”, Brett and Liv’s story. Haley has recently moved to town for her dream work opportunity and keeps having awkward encounters with her cute “nerd” neighbor. Ted Jones is the “nerd” next door that she has a crush on. Ted also has a crush on Haley but before he asks her out he overhears a conversation she has with Liv and he mistakenly thinks that Haley and Liv are a long distance couple instead of best friends. This begins the most fun relationship/non-relationship. I really enjoyed this book and as always I can’t wait for the next one!
