Summary

When Nicole visits Stiles Castle, the stately home of Lady Caroline Seaton, she doesn’t expect to stumble upon a centuries-old mystery hidden in the noble family’s genealogical tree. Once she finds that some vital details have been removed from the ancestral records, Nicole can’t refuse her friend’s plea to discover the truth and help her save the floundering family business.

Unearthing the origins of Caroline’s elusive Tudor ancestor proves trickier than Nicole anticipated, but the ancient secrets that are revealed are just as incendiary as the decades-old lies that a simple DNA test has exposed within Nicole and Kyle’s own family.

Will this be the case that changes their lives forever?

This was another really enjoyable story from this series. The author, characters and narrator were great as usual.

Yet another great listening experience.

I absolutely loved this instalment of Nicole and Kyle. Can't wait for the next book! I love how relatable Nicole and Kyle are and you find yourself invested in their lives. Love a good Irina Shapiro book that you can forget about your hard day whilst reading.

Absolutely loved it

Another one in this series ruined by the narrator. Lots of cringe worthy mispronunciations throughout and it seems she try's to sound posh but then say's things like, tmorra rather than tomorrow. Also she often fades to a whisper at the end of chapters which means you have to increase the volume to hear.
So I will forgo any other books with is narrator, thankfully the other one's I've listened toby this author the narrator have so far been good.

Poor Narration

First of all, I found myself wondering whether the author has ever been to England. How come most of her characters are dark-haired and dark-eyed? I’ve lived in England all my life and, honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever come across a black-haired, hazel-eyed, non–mixed-race Brit. Not that it matters - just an observation.
I enjoyed the historical side of the story and found it captivating and well constructed. The narration didn’t bother me much – I got used to it after the first book.
Unfortunately, I ended up skipping whole chapters about Nicole and Kyle and their blown-out-of-proportion problems and rather dull conversations; reading about them was pain-inducing.

Engaging past, unconvincing present.
