Good story
The story was good and interesting. However, the poor pronunciation of Ukrainian words became VERY ANNOYING! This spoilt the audio experience.
The author should have enlisted a narrator with an excellent command of the Ukrainian language. My father fought against the russians in the 2nd world war and was also a displaced person. I was born in the UK and speak read and write Ukrainian fluently as do the majority of the diaspora. I’m sure that in America there are many Ukrainians that could have done the audio with the proper pronunciation and given credit to the overall story/listen. No effort has been given to pronouncing Ukrainian words correctly. For this I give 1 *. Listening to this became very annoying.

Excellent historical novel
A excellent book. Incredibly gritty and realistic, filled with amazing emotion and the fact that this is inspired by real history adds so much to the weight of the story. Highly recommend.
The only downside is that the narrator, while good for the most part, does a poor job with the voices for the characters. There's a decent amount of emotion there, but there is virtually zero distinction between characters, so it can be a little difficult to emotionally attach yourself to someone who sounds the same as the narrator, as well as the fact that it's often confusing to distinguish who is talking while two characters are in conversation with each other.
But overall, this didn't negatively impact the audiobook a huge amount, and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an emotional and historical novel. I look forward to more books by this author.

Utter Waste of Money
Totally confusing book, flitting back and forth randomly. I simply couldn't get into this. Too many characters going back and forth. I kept having to go back to the beginning to try and differentiate between the characters. Would not recommend.
