About this listen

“Friendships, family, grief, joy, rage, faith, doubt, poetry, and love—this complex and sensitive book has room for every aspect of growing up!”—Margarita Engle, Newbery Honor–Winning author of The Surrender Tree

Sal used to know his place with his adoptive gay father, their loving Mexican American family, and his best friend, Samantha. But it’s senior year, and suddenly Sal is throwing punches, questioning everything, and realizing he no longer knows himself. If Sal’s not who he thought he was, who is he?

This humor-infused, warmly humane look at universal questions of belonging is a triumph.

A moving and emotional listen. Addictive as it was charming. As with Sánez's Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe, I have a feeling this will stay with me for a long time to come.

Another great book from Benjamin Alire Saenz. I have become a fan of this author. His books cover important and often deep matters in an unpretentious and extremely enjoyable way. Looking forward to the next of his books I will be reading.

Loved it!

This is another beautiful story by Benjamin Alice Saenz.
I love the pace telling the story, and the tones chosen by the narrator: his approach is not only thoughtful, but he successfully transmitted the joy of sharing this dramatic but fundamentally sweet story about coming of age, family and friendship. This narration definitely helps to make the experience of listening to this book more enjoyable.
