Summary

FNH Audio presents an unabridged reading of The Hour of the Dragon by Robert E. Howard. As it was foretold, Conan has risen to the kingship of Aqualonia, yet the forces of darkness and evil are forging his downfall. An ancient power rises from death and smashes Conan from his throne, leaving him running for his life through the streets of his own capital.

The Hour of the Dragon follows Conan as he struggles against evil men and monsters in an epic struggle to recover his lost crown.

Not quite

As a fan of R. E. Howard's books I have been waiting ages for them to appear on Audible. I am mystified by the fact that all the Conan stories are available on Amazon as an audio CD (I've got one of them), but aren't yet available on Audible. Sadly this isn't the version I was waiting for; the reader makes a valiant effort and has a decent voice, but I found his frequent mispronounciations and stumbles jarring. The story itself, while it is entertaining and the only full length Conan novel, isn't Howard's best work. It is a bit of a "Greatest hits compilation", revisiting and mixing together themes and ideas from earlier stories. I guess I'll have to dust off my "Coming of Conan the Cimmerian" CD and carry on listening to that.
