About this listen
Let me tell the story of how I fell in love with a woman who had no idea that we were even dating. The ridiculousness started when she stole my beer, and trust me, my grumpy self doesn’t normally share. But somehow, Avery Wilson is the exception to every one of my many rules.
Unfortunately, I’m not hers.
Not only is she the daughter of the Rev’s coach who hates me, she’s also sworn off dating for the year.
Little does she know we’ve been doing just that. Sure, she says I’m her friend when we watch romcoms or spend holidays together, but I’m just biding my time until the year is up.
With her father against me, and a line of men interested in dating her, once she finds out my true intentions, will we survive the fallout?
Author Note: The Fall Out is book one of the Boston Revs Three Outs Series. It is a stand-alone baseball romcom that starts with a one-night stand with the coach's daughter. This friends-to-lovers grumpy sunshine romance will guarantee you tons of fun banter and swoony moments between the hot-headed baseball pitcher and the animal-loving heroine. Add in some laughs with the Revs team and an adorable pet puffin and it is sure to be fun for all.

After a series of bad relationships, Avery decides to take a year-long break from dating. She chooses to do this not only to have some respite from bad men but to also get to know herself better; to be herself, not just what the men she is dating want her to be. And also, to figure out what she really wants in a man. She hopes this will all help her choose better men in the future. One night out, (after declaring this one-year dating break), she is out with her 2 besties, and there she meets Christian. Avery’s friends don’t think she needs a whole year dating break. Rather, they think she just needs a one-night stand to get over her most recent breakup.
Meanwhile, Christian is set to start his first year pitching with a new team. He is out with some friends when he meets Avery. They instantly have a connection. Avery is not really feeling her friends’ plans for her to have a one-night stand. That is until she meets Chris. Their connection is so strong that she decides to go home with him. They have a great night until Chris’ roommate lets slip what he does for a living (that he plays for the Revs) and she flees. When Chris wakes up, she is obviously gone, but he feels so strongly about their connection that he spends 2 months looking for her. He has no success until she walks onto the field during one of his games to help an injured bird. There he finds out that she is his new coach’s daughter. Not just any coach, but a coach that he doesn’t get on with.
Woow this was soo cute to read/listen to. I loved the forbidden aspect of their relationship because not only does Chris have to stay away from Avery because she is his coach’s daughter, but the fact that he and his coach did not like each other added an extra level of forbidden-ness and complication because his coach could really make his time at the Revs more difficult if he were to find out about them. Another complication was the fact that she was taking a year’s break from dating. That forced him to actually get to know her first as a friend. The progression of their friendship was just chef’s kiss! 🤌💋
Finally, the way he treated her, making sure she knew what she deserved and should expect from men was just absolutely swoon-worthy! He really paid attention to everything about her. He made sure she always had her favourite drink/meals, having them delivered/brought to her whenever she needed them. Her favourite types of movies? He made sure whenever they had movie nights, they were watching them. He never had her waiting on him; he made sure he was always early for their plans. He even set up a foundation for her birds, to keep the puffin and to add more, when he saw how sad moving birds were. He truly was book/IRL boyfriend goals! 💕 Overall, this was a solid read that I highly recommend!
This was the first book by Jenni Bara that I read and I really enjoyed it. I’m excited now to dive into the rest of this series.
Connor Crais and Rose Dioro were the perfect duo to narrate this. Crais really perfected the portrayal of the grumpy, but lowkey sweet nature of Chris. And Dioro was amazing as the sunshiny and bubbly, but slightly tentative personality of Avery. Their narration was delightful to listen to.

Amazingly well produced and so well acted.

Though not necessary, I recommend starting with (at least the first 2) Momcom books, as that sets up a number of the supporting characters.
Let me start off by saying that I adored everything about this book, including the appearance! Even on my adv copy there were adorable graphics for the ToC and the chapter headings. I even tapped my partner on the shoulder because I thought they were so cute that he had to see them too.
This is a one-night-stand-to-friends-to-lovers and SO SO good. Avery is this bubbly, smart avian vet that is just so loveable (if a little oblivious). Christian is a grumpy so-and-so that falls HARD for our FMC almost instantly. Every step of the way Chris respects Avery’s wishes and boundaries. He works through his own phobias to be the best puffin dad and man, talk about big declarations of love. The way Chris begins to see Avery’s dad from her perspective, and actively works to improve their relationship is just… goals.
I couldn’t put it down once I started, Jenni’s writing just grabs you and doesn’t let you go until you’ve run the full gamut of emotions. This reads like a Christmas-Hallmark-romantic-comedy that I really wish was an actual movie, because I would watch it every year. I loved this, so so much!
PS: I think that I may have accidentally fallen in love with a supporting character, Emmerson. He even got his own reel 😂 I think this is a good thing though, as his story is book 2! I have my suspicions about book 3 too, but I will keep those to myself for now 😉
One of my faves

Avery meets Chris at a bar and they have a one-night stand. That same night, she finds out he’s the new star pitcher on the MLB team her father coaches and she’s not allowed to date his players. She also decides that night to take year long break from relationships after a string of bad ones. Despite her best efforts to stay away from him, they end up spending a lot of time together through work, and feelings develop.
Christian Damiano has eclipsed all other book boyfriends for me this year. From the beginning I was drawn to him. From his first meeting with Avery, it was obvious he was different from any guy she’d dated. He was so attentive to her and cared about what she wanted. (I’m not going to list all the sweet little things and grand gestures he did for her. You’re going to have to read it to find out. It’s so much more enjoyable that way.) I loved that he’s not your stereotypical playboy star athlete. I loved watching their friendship grow over the course of the book. I’m usually impatient to see the couple get together, so it speaks to how engaging the story was that I never once felt bored or impatient for that to happen. I also loved how patient Chris was. He never once tried to pressure her into ending her break early.
The side characters added a lot of colour to the story. I haven’t read the Momcoms series, so this was my introduction to Beckett Langfield and Cortney Miller and I am eager to read their stories now. I loved how supportive the side characters were and the banter between not only the teammates, but the team and the owner as well. Puff Daddy, the puffin, was my favourite side character. He certainly added a lot of humour to the story and was a low-key matchmaker. I also loved the different spin on the “MMC has a pet” trope.
The duet performance by Connor Crais and Rose Dioro was a treat to my ears. Connor played the hot-headed pitcher with a soft spot for one particular girl (and bird) perfectly. Connor in a sports romance is always a joy to listen to. I’ve only listened to a couple of books by rose dioro and this was the first romcom and I loved her portrayal of the passionate, hardworking Avery, who is secure in every part of her life but her love life. I loved the range of voices both narrators gave the side characters and the way they brought out the humour in the story. I have replayed my favourite funny scene multiple times and it cracks me up every time.
I highly recommend this book if you like a forbidden love sports romcom with a multi-layered star athlete, a sweet, caring FMC who learns her worth, a supportive, funny, supporting cast. And if you like The Boyfriend Goal by Lauren Blakely, I think you’ll like this one.
Hilarious, heartwarming slow-burn
