About this listen
A bad play shouldn’t cause a media meltdown but I’m Kyle Bosco and I’m a competitive jerk. So of course I couldn’t just shut up. Now I must atone for my comments. Somehow that includes working at a daycare with seven year old Piper who thinks I’m her best friend. But Piper is not the one who has me tied up in knots. That job is reserved for Harper Wallace- her mother.
Harper is fierce, combative, and an irresistibly gorgeous single mom.
If hating me were a sport, she'd be MVP. For reasons I can't tell you, she's completely off limits so I obviously should stay away.
But hear me out?
I'm a competitive jerk. I’m not the guy that rides the bench. I’d rather go down swinging and foul out than not play at all.

Harper is just amazing, and how Bara wrote in the ASD representation was so authentic but treated it with respect at the same time. I loved the push and pull between Harper and Kyle (especially his nickname for her), and I really enjoyed how everything was weaved together; the narrative kept me on my toes, but there were so many moments I was messaging my bestie going "I understand why Kyle is your favourite".
Bara has done it again with picking a fantastic duo to narrate this. Dexter and Mallon bring life to Kyle, Harper and the wider cast of characters. They truly embodied their characters, putting their entirety into the narration and really make you feel and connect with them. Dexter perfectly shifts from cocky playboy to the protective helper, and his voicing of Sam was utterly adorable. Mallon brings fierceness and sass to Harper, and her range for the supporting cast of characters was phenomenal!

The ASD representation in this book was well-written and eye opening as the author showed us the struggles faced when raising a child on the spectrum.
I loved seeing Kyle fall for this family. His relationship with Harper's kids was so sweet, and I loved how much time he spent with them and supported them. He was competitive and confident, caring and compassionate, but was such a great support for Harper, and these two were perfect together.
This was an enjoyable tale and and I can't wait for more in this series. It had me captivated, and I would definitely recommend this novel.
I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Stephen Dexter & Erin Mallon. They gave an exceptional performance and nailed the emotional moments. They had great pacing, and their voices were clear and understandable. They did a wonderful job embodying the characters they portrayed and made the listening experience an incredible one.
