Perfect!

This book tells about how many of the new inventions increased greater production for many people. Some people's lives were improved as a result of the Industrial Revolution. However, there were some drawbacks to the Industrial Revolution. Factories dumped their wastewaters into rivers resulting in more pollution. The experience of the Industrial Revolution (whether good, bad or mixed) depended on a specific individual's own personal experiences and perspective.

Excellent!

This is an excellent bundle of two books combined into one. The Enlightenment brought intellectual advancement and scientific advancement to many people. The Industrial Revolution book part of the bundle is an excellent book telling about the advantages and disadvantages of the Industrial Revolution.

Interesting

This collection includes two titles: "The Enlightenment" and "The Industrial Revolution," both of which were released previously. The former traces the Age of Reason from its birth in the seventeenth century to its end in the eighteenth century, and the latter follows the impact of machines on the globe from its inception in the mid-eighteenth century to the present. Really a great history book.

great!

Two very different topics, two very interesting subjects. Even though they were different books they were both about call and event or series of events that can change the world we know to the world and the way it was. They take a complicated subject and make it all makes sense. I love the fact that even though it is a brief summary they seem to give you everything you need to know and the rest is just minutia or boring facts

I enjoyed this

This led us to consumerism which was founded by excess income. I enjoyed the publication as it is a short piece that provides a quick listen of many accomplishments that shaped our current world. One improvement would see the addition of indices which would allow for a quick review and location of topics and people.

Very Well done!

The history quickly steps the listener through the end of the Renaissance which established capitalism and the liberation of Church control and a revival of interests in natural law, science, and philosophy. One of the earliest representatives of this new culture was the Dutch East India Company which become a model of a multinational corporation. Very Well done!

Awesome!

As the book moves into the Industrial Revolution age, it does a wonderful job of informing the person on how advances in technology set the stage and transformed society from handmade manufacturing to machine-power. This included many scientific and engineering breakthroughs. As the book declares, this span of history could easily consume a lifetime, but the book manages to touch on a variety of topics.

Brilliant!

There was a danger in the period as many scholars were viewed as heretical in the eyes of the Church and met death because of their persecution. But Protestant views weakened the authority of the church and opened society to new ideas and less suppression. The Enlightenment touches on the lives of many and their influence on the evolution of the times. In many instances, people found themselves on the wrong side of the authorities as they explored and developed new ideas and supported challenges to the old guard. Brilliant!

I love it!

The Enlightened Economy would be an excellent suggestion for the listening list of a graduate student seeking a thoughtful review of much of the literature on the Industrial Revolution. More casual general listeners should be forewarned, however, that this is a work of scholarship, packed with details that may not consistently hold their interest.

Awesome audible

These connecting sinews between Enlightenment thought and economic development seems plausible enough, although one might quibble that author is stronger at asserting the nexus than he is at demonstrating it compellingly. The bulk of his book, in fact, is not especially dependent on the scaffolding of this theme and could easily stand alone.

brilliant

He proposes that the Enlightenment abetted economic development on another front, as well: it helped place "rent-seeking" (mercantilist policies of monopoly and privilege) on the defensive, as the ideas of Adam Smith and others filtered into political discourse.

well done

The author believes the extensive literature on the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution have remained mostly disjointed from one another. In The Enlightened Economy, he seeks to connect them.

It was a great journey into our history.

This set of books complemented each other. The people who were influencing the world around them was fascinating. The industrial revolution would have different without them. It was a great journey into our history.

Amazing!

A great duo of books, quick insight to some of the best thinkers that got us to where we are today, and how the industrial revolution got us to where we are today also. The books definitely pique the interest and make you want to dive in a little deeper about the subject.

A great Audible!

Many events affect humanity but change happens on a grander scale. These two books cover such eras of grand scale that change how we innovated and operated as a society in thought as well as in productivity shaping the world along the way. A great Audible!
