Summary

A fleet of 40 worldships carrying the last remnants of humanity on a mission of survival trying to find a new home...but what if a new planet were found - would it bring happiness and hope - or start a war that would rip the fleet apart?

Coming from the poverty-stricken Elfor settlement on the Humility, Master Thief Yasmine Dufont just wants a way off the stinking ship and to put a whole lot of distance between her and gangster ex-boyfriend, Dimitri. But when a dream score of credits goes disastrously wrong, she’s left on the run with a hidden code that everyone seems to want to get their hands on.

Addict Detective Zhang Woo will do anything for his next fix. Distracted by his insatiable needs, broken by the murder of his last lover, he knows he’s on a downward spiral but has no idea how to stop it, and even if he could recover the stolen navigational code his boss wants so badly, should he?

Breaking new stories has always been Kristi Carter’s passion - but there’s something not adding up about the report she’s currently covering. Digging deeper could have repercussions not just for her career but for her very life....

As the tensions rise between Elfors and the anti-Elfor movement headed by the sadistic Captain Pierre Jefferson, everyone knows the breaking point will be reached soon. Humanity may well have been saved from complete destruction - but what cost are they willing to pay to secure their future?

Love this The Code series. Exciting, good storytelling, layered and funny. And Colin Morgan is just phenomenal as a narrator! The way he brings the various characters to life with so many different voices and accents...I couldn't stop listening.

Exciting story, fantastic narrator

Like a lot of other reviews, I also found this book unnecessarily crass (and I'm definitely no prude). The first half of this book was fairly weak and at times the characters felt mean-spirited towards each other in a way that wasn't pleasant to listen to. However, it seriously kicked into gear in the second half and I'm grateful I stuck with it as it was top-notch RR Haywood. Give the book a real chance and you won't be disappointed.

Colin Morgan does a truly exceptional job on narration too. Hope he gets more audio books.

Worth persevering

I enjoyed the story told in this book, which continues from the previous one, The Worldship Humanity, which was also unusual and excellent. There is a helpful summary of the events in the first book in the introduction, then the story races on. The threads in the first book are continued and expanded upon and we get to visit two more of the fleet ships, the Beijing and The Ark, plus adding a new character to the story. I don't want to say too much more for fear of spoiling things.
I have found myself wondering what events will come next, how the hidden hand will direct things and whether the code will evntually be entered into the navigation computers so the fleet can make it's way to the new planet. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
The book would have been perfect except for the repeated use of foul language which I found off putting. I accept the idea that folks who've lived at the edge and are experiencing extreme circumstances may well speak so, but I'd prefer to have it inferred rather than repeated verbatum. At length. This is the reason I have given four stars to the story rather than the five the rest of it deserves. It also means that I won't be able to recommend this story to other friends of mine. I also know that others won't mind the use of such language but think this fair to mention for those that do.

A really interesting story

Possibly the best audible book I have ever listened too. The excitement was mind blowing and the characters which there are many were brilliant as we.

Absolutely brilliant
