A charming cozy
The big flaw in this story is that the person who was murdered is extremely unlikeable. It’s hard to feel a deep desire for answers when she’s so awful, so I didn’t really get invested in solving the crime. Otherwise it’s well written, charming & well narrated too!

Another great mystery!!
Gemma Rose gets the opportunity of a lifetime when a wealthy talent show creator, Monty Gibbs, chooses her Little Stables Tearoom to provide the daily catering for his show, From Pleb to Celeb.
A menagerie of contestants ranging from the talented to the eccentric, eager to get their chance at fame, are practicing their talents in preparation for their big chance at winning the show.
Gemma isn’t too keen on the show’s creator. She’s figured out that behind his magnanimous facade is an ambitious businessman more interested in sensationalism than the welfare of his contestants. He’s even resorted to embellishing their backgrounds and exploiting them for the benefit of ratings. And although some may have checkered pasts, Gemma is adamant that it’s no reason to take advantage of them. So when one of the contestants is found dead behind the stage, Gemma wonders just how far Monty Gibbs might go to advance his show. Or might there be some other killer lurking amongst them?
H.Y. Hanna has done it again. I was thoroughly entertained by The Dough Must Go On. The “old biddies” characters are always comical....
“The police are as effective as a chocolate teapot.”— Old Biddies
One of the highlights of this series is revisiting some of my favorite characters. Gemma’s geeky friend, Seth, always teaches some interesting scientific fact or lesson that enlightens me. And Gemma’s uppity but harmless, sweet mother is a great character whose appearance in the books always makes me happy. These Oxford Tearoom Mysteries never fail to provide a hilarious scene or three, and I can count on a great mystery and a top-notch narrating performance from the inimitable Pearl Hewitt. The Oxford Tearoom Mysteries is one of my absolute favorite cozy mystery series.

Another fun story, a great listen!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the latest instalment in the Oxford Tearoom Series, the TV program made for an interesting storyline. I loved how Gemma's Mom was woven into the story, and of course Muesli and the Old Biddies too! Hope Gemma decides to keep the mouse as a pet for future books! I can't see what this cast of characters is up to next, I'm a definite fan of this series!
I'm a big fan of Audible and listen on my 1 hour commute from the suburbs. The time passes quickly while I enjoy the series. I really appreciate the narrator Pearl's ability to bring Ms. Hanna's characters to life. The range of voices for the cast of characters boggles my mind! How does she keep them all straight? Anyway, a great listen and great read too if you are like me and aren't too many steps away from your Kindle.
Disclosure: A review copy of this audiobook was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

Another fun "Oxford Tearoom" mystery
Gemma and her friends are back, this time in the unique setting of a reality TV talent show. The murder is most unusual, and suspects abound.
All my favorite characters, along with a few new ones, play a part in the story. As always, there are many laugh out loud moments, as well as plenty of suspense. I enjoy the fact that pets generally play a part in the stories, and I found the pets' involvement in the talent show particularly entertaining.
H.Y. Hanna has a way of blending murder, mystery, humor, and just a little romance, that keeps me listening to the end.
The reader, Pearl Hewitt, makes listening a pleasure. She is able to give each character a unique voice, and jumps back and forth between accents effortlessly.
There were a couple of "adult situations" in this book that I didn't enjoy. Wikipedia gives this definition of cozy mysteries: "Cozy mysteries..... are a subgenre of crime fiction in which sex and violence are downplayed or treated humorously......" and this book does fall within those parameters.
That being said, while the book was well written, the mystery intriguing, and the characters enjoyable, this would not be my favorite of the series.
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

A Delightful Mystery Set at a Talent Show
In The Dough Must Go On by H.Y. Hanna, Gemma Rose has been hired to cater the From Pleb to Celeb talent show, which is taking place in Oxford. To her surprise, the four Old Biddies, plus a friend, have entered the contest as a "granny band" named the Pussy Puffs. Backstage, Gemma encounters plenty of personal drama and conflict, especially with one contestant, Laura King, determined to stir up trouble. The night of the semifinals, the puppeteer's cat, who is part of the act, goes missing, so Gemma takes her own cat, Muesli, for the woman to use. But as Gemma looks for the performer, she comes upon the body of Laura King, who must have been murdered in the previous ten minutes. With Gemma's boyfriend, Detective Instructor Devlin O'Connor, in charge of the case, Gemma finds herself mixed up in the investigation.
The Dough Must Go On is book nine in the Oxford Tea Room series and shows that Hanna has not lost any of her momentum in writing these books. The mystery plot is interesting, with the creative backdrop of the dysfunctional talent show adding extra flavor. As usual, the Old Biddies change their opinions of the murderer every next scene, adding to the fun of the book. The characters in the book are fun, each having a unique personality. They are not particularly round characters, but their natures have creative features. Gemma's prim and humorous mother plays a larger role than usual, giving the book an extra touch of flair. And of course, the Old Biddies never cease to delight.
I have enjoyed all the books in this series, but one strength of this book in particular is the extra humor found in it. The Old Biddies prove even funnier than usual, and I laughed especially hard at the scene in which they drag Gemma into a sex shop, where they loudly comment on the strange items they find.
The audio edition of this book is performed by Pearl Hewitt, who continues to bring the series to life. She depicts each character with an individual flavor that makes each one seem unique. I especially love Hewitt's depiction of the mews of Muesli, giving real personality to the cat.
I had a great experience listening to The Dough Must Go On. I was excited to see that the latest book in the series was available on audio, and I was not disappointed. The book has a great plot and creative characters filled with humor. I give this book five stars!

Earns 5+/5 Granny Bands...Entertaining, Engaging!
H.Y. Hanna’s Oxford Tearoom Mystery series is my absolute all-time favorite, and her newest ninth book does not disappoint taking her wonderful characters into reality television. The Little Stables Tearoom has been hired to cater for the “From Pleb to Celeb” reality talent show which will definitely improve the bottom line and maybe facilitate some raises and vacations, but the “Four Biddies” as contestants? That is worth seeing up close. But Gemma’s behind-the-scenes perspective leads her to witness squabbles, accusations, hair pulling, and…murder! Once again Gemma and her octogenarian sidekicks sift through a plethora of suspects and motives, but don't forget magic acts, a surprise judge, Muesli on stage, and enough peril for all. Enriching her signature first-person narrative with Gemma’s inner thoughts and descriptions, Hanna pens delightfully entertaining banter with the “Four Biddies” continue to make me laugh at their antics. I also enjoy the interactions between Gemma and her parents and her realistic attention to the various personalities creates an almost eavesdropping sense for the reader. It was so entertaining, and well worth revisiting with the audio format.
I am an eager fan of H.Y. Hanna’s audio versions and always ready to revisit her stories, especially when it's my favorite narrator Pearl Hewitt at the microphone. Pearl’s marvelous artistry goes way beyond the traditional reading by providing the perfect voice for Gemma, four distinctly different dialects for the “Biddies,” and a sly, if not a bit devilish, “meow” from Muesli. All female narrators find challenge with mimicking the male voice, but Pearl did more than a satisfactory job. She enriches H. Y. Hanna’s story portraying the tone, emotion, and personalities for great entertainment. Like I always say, “Murder seems better with an English accent!”, especially when it's Pearl Hewitt!
