About this listen

Things are eerily quiet at Gemma's quaint English tearoom, and she can't understand why - until she learns about the trendy new "tea bar" that's opened on the other side of the village. To her horror, she soon finds her customers being stolen and her business the target of sabotage. Meanwhile, her mother's newfound obsession with all things Asian means a whole new world of fluffy footwear and hazardous dinner encounters. But Gemma has bigger problems than trying to eat with chopsticks when the ruthless rival tea bar owner is savagely murdered and she is considered the key suspect!

Now she's in a real pickle, desperate to clear her name. And with her detective boyfriend accused of nepotism and under suspicion, Gemma is forced to tackle the case on her own. Luckily, she can still count on the help of the nosy Old Biddies, while the naughty antics of her tabby cat, Muesli, uncover some unexpected clues too!

As Gemma delves into a mystery where "East meets West", familiar motives arise, despite the difference between cultures. But with a full menu of suspects - from the aggrieved dentist with the strained smile, to the belligerent chef who lost everything, and not to mention a pair of estranged sisters hurt by the ultimate betrayal - she discovers that solving this case is no piece of cake....

Bonus: traditional tea egg recipe included at the end of the story!

I enjoyed this book on the kindle but loved it as an audio book, even knowing who the killer was I hooked. The author is talented enough to mix mystery with humour and does it in a way that is entertaining and keeps you guessing until the very last word. The characters are fun and like able and with the elderly sidekicks there is certainly some very funny situations. This is a great series and I think over time it has just gotten even better as we have gotten to know the wonderful characters and there quirky ways. The mystery was good and with plenty of suspects it worked well with the existing characters, I had guessed who the killer might have been but was by no means certain. There is a lot going on in the story but it is easy to follow, even if this is your first visit to the tea room. The ending also had me in shock, I did not see that coming but don't worry the mystery does get solved and it refers to the main characters love life, can't wait for the next book to see where things go from here.
Gemma is worried when she only has one customer in her tea shop. When she discovers a tea bar has just opened up on the other side of the village and with all the opening promotions running its got the villagers interest, including her loyal customers. Gemma and her best friend decided to check out the competition and quickly learn not everything is as cracked up as it seems, the food has a lot to be desired, its to trendy for a small village and the owner Azalea isn't the friendliest. When Gemma's tea room start to get bad reviews on the internet she has a good idea of who is behind it but can she prove it? Then at a community meeting her mother asked her to help at Gemma discovers the get together is being held at her rivals tea bar. Then Gemma finds Azalea body in the kitchen and becomes the number one suspect in her murder. With her boyfriend on the scene of the murder and his relationship with the top suspect he is taken off the case. With Muesli comforting the grieving family it gives Gemma plenty of opportunity to get to know the murder victim through her remaining family members but could one of them really have killed the ruthless business owner? The old biddies are also up to the challenge of clearing Gemma's name even if it's just distracting a young police office, giving Gemma the room to investigate. Can she find the motive and reason why Azalea died and with the competition out of the way is the tea shop saved?
I like the very talented narrator, who puts in an entertaining performance.

Another fun murder mystery where Gamma ends up loosening ever when she was right. Read brilliantly again by Pearl Hewitt.

A wonderful series and another lighthearted mystery with Gemma, Muesli, and co. I really enjoy all the recurring characters and quirkiness they add to the story; Gemma's Mum being a favourite and Devlin too of course. A certain scene with Devlin had me laughing out loud there are plenty of clues for Gemma to follow and a few twists to keep us all guessing. Muesli helps along the way and the old biddies stick their noses in as well. It’s a lot of fun and I'll be sad when the series ends.

Fair play to H.Y. Hanna, this was a bit different to the previous books in the series, but my god was it good, I laughed out loud a number of times. This was excellent I binged it in two days. Pearl Hewitt is a joy to listen to, I think she is brilliant and brings the characters to life. The old biddies are amazing, especially in this book, some of the things they say are incredible! The ending was really good and very refreshing, I liked it very much, I have wanted to see an ending like this... I'm not going to spoil it, but yes I want to see more authors do a story like this. What I would like to see moving forward is for Gemma to mature and grow, especially to start standing up for herself. I hear the way people talk to her and treat her, sod em, Gemma should not very politely tell them to go away or in regards to her mum, put her in her place, and the old girls. She should say something like;

"Right, if you lot break into this house I will call the police and watch them arrest you and hall you away, don't think I won't!" "Gemma you wouldn't" "Oh yes I would, and I will watch it all happen with a big smile on my face!" "Gemma, that's just mean..." "Well listen to me and you won't land up being arrested and put in handcuffs!" "I've never been put in handcuffs before?" "I have, it was fun, we were role playing!" "Glenda, there is such a thing as over sharing!"

This is by far my favourite book in the series!

A Light and amusing series. Serious detecting by an amusing group of amateur sleuths. Mixed with personal highs and lows of Gemma the main character and her little cat.
Can’t wait for the next book.

Great murder mystery series
