Summary

Ever since he can remember, Robin, son of Sir John de Bureford, has been told what is expected of him as the son of a nobleman. He must learn the ways of knighthood. But Robin's destiny is changed in one stroke when he falls ill and loses the use of his legs. Fearing a plague, his servants abandon him and Robin is left alone.

A monk named Brother Luke rescues Robin and takes him to the hospice of St. Mark's, where he is taught woodcarving and - much harder - patience and strength. Says Brother Luke, "Thou has only to follow the wall far enough and there will be a door in it."

Robin soon enough learns what Brother Luke means. And when the great castle of Lindsay is in danger, it is Robin, who cannot mount a horse and ride to battle, who saves the townspeople and discovers there is more than one way to serve his king.

Character and history

The story encourages the building of character and is an excellent historical introduction to life in feudal England. It is complex enough for parents to listen along with children, Yet fast paced enough to hold the attention of young children.

Such a great story

This was a great story!!! I cannot stop listening to it. This is at least my tenth time. Audible picked a great reading for this story and I love the added music. Audible truly did a great job telling this story. I love listening to it because I was always engaged with the person speaking as much as the story. This is a very thought provoking story and they definitely chose a fantastic story teller. Thank you audible for choosing this reader and continuing to make me smile. I always will recommend this app.

Very Interesting

My kids and I enjoyed this book. Robin's transformation during the book and the lessons he learns are wonderful. I was happy for my kids to hear this encouraging tale.

It is a good lesson and a good story, I wish there was more volume in it.

Delightful!

Any additional comments?

A fresh, whimsical listen. The songs were perfect, the story was cute and original. The only lack was for a better recording quality.

my son and I listened to this.

we really liked the story and the voice was great, however we had difficulty hearing over the music that was playing in the background at times. I couldn't figure out any setting to reduce it, so that was the only problem we experienced. recommend overall

Slow Moving but good.

Good story about overcoming adversity. The story moved a bit slow for today's kids but is worth reading.
