About this listen

Nothing exciting EVER happens in the tiny town of Alamo, Texas. But that doesn't stop feisty fifteen-year-old Crystal O'Mally from dreaming of becoming a top notch detective, just like her hero. She gets her chance when her dad, the local jeweler, is accused of stealing the town's treasure, a giant pink diamond. However, things quickly get out of control as clues don't add up, the suspect list grows rapidly, and a mysterious shadow always seems to be one step ahead of her. Throw in an overeager "helpful" eight-year-old sister, Emma, and a cute guy who insists on tagging along, followed by a best friend suddenly keeping secrets, and Crystal starts second-guessing her career choice.

However, she's soon in a race against time to find the real culprit before the town plays judge, jury, and executioner with her father. Can she get to the bottom of the caper before he's thrown in jail for a crime he did not commit? Or has her career stopped before it even started?

A neat little teen detective story and a very good first book in a promising new series. Crystal O'Mally makes for a sharp and determined young sleuth, diving headfirst into the mystery of a stolen diamond. She's ably—if not always willingly—assisted by her 8-year-old sister, Emerald, and a classmate who brings his own charm to the mix. Together, they make an interesting trio. Lauren Pedersen's narration brings the characters to life in an engaging way, helping to make the audiobook a pleasure to listen to. A recommended listen and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
