The Honourable Catherine Elford - Kitty - is presented with an awful choice. Either she is cast off, penniless, by her stepbrother, or she marries the handsome Earl of Ledbury, who would be perfect were he not a serial womaniser. Ledbury has only ever courted other men’s wives and does not want a wife of his own. However, Kitty’s generous dowry, which will keep him from selling his beloved racehorses, proves too tempting.

Story
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

The conveniently perfect audiobook
The convenient marriage was the first Georgette Heyer book I ever read & I was hooked on Heyer from that point on. I have read & listened to various audiobook versions of this story over the years & I know that I will be listening to this audiobook many more times in the future.
Avita Jay has done a brilliant job in her telling of the story & her range of voices for the different characters was very well done. I felt her enthusiasm as she drew me back into a story that I knew very well but I just had to keep listening; it was like visiting a story for the very first time.
I will certainly be looking out for other audiobooks by Avita Jay in the future, she is a great addition to audiobooks.
Just on another note I was a little disappointed to see most of the other versions of Georgette Heyer books have disappeared from Audible listings, though I had managed to buy most of them, there was still a few I had wanted to add to my library. Could Audible not add a “soon to be retried list” so that it gives customers a chance to purchase books before they disappear for good. It is disappointing if you are collecting a series or a particular authors work & then find out you have missed your chance. I try to use my credits wisely & I also buy books from the sales & special promotions but there are so many genres of books that I collect from, that I have to limit what I can purchase each month.

disappointing narration
the narrator copes reasonably well most of the time but I don't think she understands what a lot of the words mean, or she's insensitive to meaning, or something.
she doesn't know the book, she doesn't know GH, she doesn't understand the slang, and she doesn't seem to really care.

I have the previous Audible version, which I prefer to this one. It could be that I have listened to it so often, that I am disappointed when certain sections are not as enjoyable as the older one.

Even though I wanted to know the outcome, I didn't want the book to end. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to start reading it straight away. However this will be a book I treat myself to, as a delicious break from my murder mysteries.
I highly recommend this, it is now my favourite GH book and I never thought Frederica or The Grand Sophie would be toppled from their shared Top Spot!
