About this listen

A stand-alone novel based on high-profile child abductions, which have been followed by millions of concerned parents on the news. Five-year-old twins are abducted from a tent in the Lake District and the hunt for a dangerous paedophile ring begins. Police procedure follows the premise that 60% of abducted children are murdered within the first four hours of being taken. The first hour is called "The golden hour" and the longer a child is missing, the less chance there is of them being recovered unharmed. The Child Taker follows the desperate search for the missing twins.

I first read this book over 2 and half years ago and it was my first date with Conrad Jones. What a first date it was - Love Island producers could take a lesson from Mr Jones. The tale twists and turns and takes your emotions through all kinds or exercises. This is not a book for the faint hearted or easily shocked. The sad thing is, the kind of organisation Mr Jones describes is far too credible. There are also moments of great tenderness. Hayley's reaction to the arrival of her father was beautiful, as was the connection between the twins. These loving touches stop the book from being too bleak. There are a lot of these special interludes, (eg; Jack's back story) which take this tale from a voyeuristic account of evil to an engrossing, captivating, action packed adventure. Over two years ago I was totally smitten by Conrad Jones' mastery with a pen and my admiration has not dimmed. When you find an author of this calibre, I definitely recommend 'double-dipping'; reading the book and listening to the audio version. Even though I knew what was going to happen, the sheer brilliance of the story managed to enthral and bewitch me all over again, (especially John Tankersley). A superb book from an accomplished author, which I am thrilled and privileged to recommend. You can thank me later.

An absolutely cracking book!
I know this author is good but this story narrated just has a life of its own. I read it before I started reviewing & now I’ve listened to it I’ve been reminded how fab it is. How the two storylines from the 1 family are linked and drawn. The dilemma of the kidnap just pained me.
Narrator to me was clear & did voices of characters well. Enjoyed listening to her.
Cannot recommend this story or this author enough.

Absolutely fab book

Loved the book. The writer captivated me with this story and enjoyed the narrating by Julia Farhat. Can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.

THE CHILD TAKER BY CONRAD JONES

Oh my goodness where do I start with this one???
The narration was possibly the most dire I’ve ever listened to...and to be honest I tried to listen several times and stopped, leaving it for ages before I would return.
Why on earth would an American try to carry off Liverpool and Northern accents and try to adopt an English tone when it just wasn’t working???

However, in the end I did persevere and quite enjoyed the story and the somewhat complicated characters but often my mind drifted, wondering if their behaviour really was feasible, rather than concentrating on the plot!

I did enjoy the book although I found it quite jumpy and not a smooth listen...and on a few occasions found myself rewinding to figure out what was happening. I also thought it ended quite abruptly.

I certainly would not listen to this narrator again and sadly when that happens you tend to associate the narrator with the author.
Such a shame as it could have been so much better...

Disappointing!

Horrific story about a pedophile gang stealing and abusing children to order but it’s I found the story really engaging to listen to and was desperate for them to find these missing children in time. It’s uncomfortable to listen to at times but so it should be as we know horrible things like this do happen and I think the story tackles it well. I was not disappointed.

Horrific events but an engaging audio
