About this listen

When Chief Inspector Gamache arrives in picturesque Three Pines, he steps into a village in chaos. A man has been found bludgeoned to death, and there is no sign of a weapon, a motive, or even the dead man's name. As Gamache and his colleagues start to dig under the skin of this peaceful haven for clues, they uncover a trail of stolen treasure, mysterious codes, and a shameful history that begins to shed light on the victim's identity - and points to a terrifying killer....

Look out for: Book 6 in the Chief Inspector Gamache series, Bury Your Dead: As Quebec City shivers in the grip of winter, its ancient stone walls cracking in the cold, Chief Inspector Armand Gamache plunges into the strangest case of his celebrated career. A man has been brutally murdered in one of the city's oldest buildings - a library where the English citizens of Quebec safeguard their history. And the death opens a door into the past, exposing a mystery that has lain dormant for centuries...a mystery Gamache must solve if he's to catch a present-day killer.

I’m new to these books. They are proper old fashioned good stories that are well told. There is fact, mystery, legend, history and normal people trying to navigate the consequences of the awful end that someone has just met.

Delicious

I'm listening to the books in order, and this is definitely the best one to date.
An excellent story, familiar characters and beautifully narrated.

Best one yet.

It’s difficult to find things to say when listening to one after the other, but maybe that speaks for itself?! This is copied from last review, turning “ditto” into over 15 words!

Gradually draws you into this multi layered story leaving you with a challenging "ending" and...

Who is this about?

If you could sum up The Brutal Telling in three words, what would they be?

Greed. Power. Loss.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Brutal Telling?

The mystery of the cobweb.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Adam Sims?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I wish Adam Sims would check his French accent. Among other errors, he pronounced 'fils' (fiss) as fille (fee). Fille means daughter and fils son, so you appreciate it is rather confusing for the listener!
