Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
If you could open a door to anywhere, where would you go?
In New York City, bookseller Cassie Andrews is living an unassuming life when she is given a gift by a favourite customer. It's a book - an unusual book, full of strange writing and mysterious drawings. And at the very front there is a handwritten message to Cassie, telling her that this is the Book of Doors, and that any door is every door.
What Cassie is about to discover is that the Book of Doors is a special book that bestows an extraordinary powers on whoever possesses it, and soon she and her best friend Izzy are exploring all that the Book of Doors can do, swept away from their quiet lives by the possibilities of travelling to anywhere they want.
But the Book of Doors is not the only magical book in the world. There are other books that can do wondrous and dreadful things when wielded by dangerous and ruthless individuals - individuals who crave what Cassie now possesses.
Suddenly Cassie and Izzy are confronted by violence and danger, and the only person who can help them is, it seems, Drummond Fox. He is a man fleeing his own demons - a man with his own secret library of magical books that he has hidden away in the shadows for safekeeping. Because there is a nameless evil out there that is hunting them all...
Because some doors should never be opened.

Unusual story
This was a book that I kept looking forward to getting back to and making time for. It was an unusual story, bit reminiscent of Inkheart and Midnight Library but with a novel storyline. Unlike a lot of fantasy novels, this is not appropriate to read with kids - it’s pretty dark in places.

Loved this book
This story was very cleverly written, with lots of twists, some gruesome bits but overall a brilliant book. The narrator was excellent.

A diverting story
The structure is similar to the Time Traveller’s Wife, well thought out although occasionally a bit hastily convenient. I didn’t think the origin story of the books was at all convincing but overall the story held my attention.

Book of Doors
Beautifully punctuated with metaphors and similes the Book of Doors takes us in a journey like no other through time and place. Bravo. As an aside, it would make a great film!

the allure of time travel and magic books
as kids we wished we had powers to make people do what we want or travel through doors to imaginary worlds that's what intrigued me I think, the main characters are quirky and relatable and the bad guys downright nasty and evil, gets a bit confusing with the back and forwards story telling on the time travel scene's but all in all a good story.
