Summary

The astonishing, beautiful new story from the best-selling and Costa short-listed author of Time Travelling with a Hamster.

There are stories about people who want to live forever.

This is not one of those stories.

This is a story about someone who wants to stop....

Alfie Monk is like any other nearly teenage boy - except he's 1,000 years old and can remember the last Viking invasion of England.

Obviously no-one believes him.

So when everything Alfie knows and loves is destroyed in a fire, and the modern world comes crashing in, Alfie embarks on a mission to find friendship, acceptance and a different way to live...which means finding a way to make sure he will eventually die.

Great Book

Loved this book, especially as I live in the North East of England and was familiar with the different places mentioned. I also liked the historical aspects of it and felt it would bring history alive for a child. I thought both narrators were excellent and they made youu feel that you were there with them. I loved the humour, poignancy and emotion and would recommend it to children and adults alike.

An imaginative idea

I loved listening to this book. It’s a great game idea to intertwine history and fiction. It is aimed at pre teens but i think it’s accessible to a wider age range through to adults who want an easy read/ listen. Thanks

Fantastic story to be enjoyed by all.

We listened to this on the way up to Scotland and the boys ( age 14 and 10 ) couldn't wait to get in the car to listen to the next chapter. It was captivating - a truly wonderful escape.

the 1,000 year old boy

I love this book because it was very clear to hear and the story was touching. I even found myself crying along with it at times. I am 9 and I would recommend it to people around 8 to 12. I knew what was going on at every moment and overall it was just AMAZING!!!

First rate story - well told!

Whole family (12 and 15 year old lads included) were greatly entertained by this book and the characters within. The boys were in stitches in places and found the characters very relatable. Obviously written by someone who vividly remembers what it is truly like to be a child. Imaginative, adventurous, warm, funny and wise. Captivating enough that the boys were happy simply to listen without needing the simultaneous stimulation from some screen or other. Absolute winner with wide appeal!

Brilliant

I was worried, after Time Traveling With a Hamster, that Ross Welford would be a one trick pony. I needn't have been worried. This story is wonderful.

It's a little slow to get going, I'd say, but the second half is magnificent.

Thanks Ross!

The one thousand year old boy

I think that this book is the best book ever for kids who are between 4 to 19 and are good at listening to get entertained for a while they go some where to do shopping when there kids do not want to come with them or doing any thing with them or when it is raining
