Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The heroes of the High Republic era return to face a shattered peace and a fearsome foe, following the dramatic events of Light of the Jedi.

In the wake of the Great Hyperspace Disaster and the heroism of the Jedi, the Republic continues to grow, bringing more worlds together under a single unified banner. Under the leadership of Chancellor Lina Soh, the spirit of unity extends throughout the galaxy, with the Jedi and the newly established Starlight Beacon station at the vanguard.

In celebration, the chancellor plans The Republic Fair, a showcase of the possibilities and the peace of the expanding Republic - a peace the Jedi hope to foster. Stellan Gios, Bell Zettifar, Elzar Mann and others join the event as ambassadors of harmony. But as the eyes of the galaxy turn toward the Fair, so, too, does the fury of the Nihil. Their leader, Marchion Ro, is intent on destroying this unity. His storm descends on the pageantry and celebration, sowing chaos and exacting revenge.

As the Jedi struggle to curb the carnage of the rampaging Nihil, they come face-to-face with the true fear their enemy plans to unleash across the galaxy - the kind of fear from which even the Force cannot shield them.

Too many characters

As with The first High Republic book "Light of the Jedi" this one didn't capture my interest for most of the book. Too many characters that you spend too little time with. At times it was interesting, but for the most part it was just boring. I was not invested in most of the characters. Performance by Marc Thomson was very good and so was the overall production (sound effects).

Relentless, new, insane

If this was one of the movies you wouldn’t dare go for a loo break. From about a quarter of the way through this book doesn’t let up. One of the craziest Star Wars novels I’ve read.

Cav knows what he did.

The story is incredible with the highest emotional highs and the lowest emotional lows. Listening to this novel was an experience that I don't think could ever be replicated. However, I struggled to understand Marc Thompson at times either through thick accents or voice modulation, often both. I really struggled to understand what OrbaLin was saying and I'd struggle with the Nihil too.

The Best Book Of The High Republic

I’m now re-listening to phase 1 of the HR after binging phase 2 and I forgot how incredible The Rising Storm is. Had me gripped from the beginning and the pacing is fantastic. Marc Thompson absolutely knocks it out of the park with his narration. A must listen to for anyone who loves a good Star Wars story!

If you like Star Wars, you’ll love this!

Brilliant story and great follow up from The Light of The Jedi. I really enjoyed how the plot unfolded and how they developed existing characters plus introduced new ones. Quite dark in places which I thought was good and added more interest and saves the story from being one dimensional. Very well read as always making you feel immersed in the story.

More generic Disney star wars

The 2nd High Republic book started much stronger than the first in the series, focusing far more on a few individual characters. The jedi however still feel more like generic super heroes than actual jedi. Although I felt engaged at the start of the audio book I really had to fight to get through its end. A hard sell for genuine star wars fans.

Marc Thompson also has a knack for doing really poor Irish accents- they really make me cringe!
