About this listen

In this essential Star Wars Legends novel, Mace Windu must journey to his long-forgotten homeworld to confront a terrifying mystery with dire personal consequences.

The jungle planet of Haruun Kal, homeworld of the legendary Jedi Master Mace Windu, has become a battleground in the increasing hostilities between the Republic and the renegade Separatist movement. The Jedi Council has sent Depa Billaba—Mace’s former Padawan and fellow Council member—to Haruun Kal to train the local tribesmen as a guerrilla resistance force. But now the Separatists have pulled back, and Depa has not returned. The only clue to her disappearance is a cryptic recording left at the scene of a brutal massacre: a recording that hints of madness and murder, and the darkness in the jungle . . . a recording in Depa’s own voice.

Mace Windu trained Depa. Only he can find her. Only he can learn what has changed her. Only he can stop her. He will leave behind the Republic he serves, the civilization he believes in, everything but his passion for peace and his devotion to his former Padawan. And he will learn the terrible price that must be paid when keepers of the peace are forced to make war. . . .

Storyline is okay. I didn't enjoy the voice narration thatuch, although after a while it did grow on me. Perhaps, my expectations where shattered because I expected a deeper narrative of Windy's life and not the mission/operation on his home planet outlined in the book.

I still recommend it as it adds more to ones understanding of the Star Wars lore.

I Expected More, But it's Still Good

Thoroughly enjoyed this story. It gives us an insight into the thoughts of a Jedi, especially one as prestigious as Mace Windu, in their exposure to the horrors of war, questioning his morals as he witnesses and partakes in guerilla warfare.

Initially I found this a little hard to listen to. I feel like the narrator took a good quarter of the book to find his footing and comfortably narrate the story and characters. This is especially noticable in the opening of the first chapter with Mace Windu's audio log, in which I feel the narration does not fit the personality of Windu at all. However as the book goes on he becomes a lot better. In the end I actually enjoyed his interpretation of Windu.

I recommend this if you're looking for a Star Wars book that focuses on something different from what you'd expect.

A Jedi thrown headfirst into the horrors of war.

A exciting side story which answered a lot of small questions about the Star Wars universe. I enjoyed the amount of detail and the short story at the very end was also a nice touch.

Really exciting and gripping

I got no real complaints, I thought his impressions of some characters were meh, not great, not awful; but that’s it. It might take a bit to get used to his narration style but once you get a feel for it you’ll love it. His Mace Windu impression was pretty damn good. Definitely recommend.

Very good Unabridged audiobook.

it's an OK story. Not part of the Star Wars timeline rather just a stand alone story.
