About this listen
Molly Sullivan said that the new baby was a little star. She was no trouble at all and she was always smiling - so she became known as Star and no one remembered that her name was Oona.
Star Sullivan just wanted everyone to be happy - her father to stop gambling, her mother not to work so hard, her brother to stay out of trouble, her sister to stop worrying about every little thing she ate.
Then the Hale family moved in next door, and from the moment Star saw 23-year-old Laddy Hale, everything began to change - until Star was no longer the sweet, thoughtful girl everyone loved and no one worried about...
©2006 Maeve Binchy (P)2007 Orion Publishing GroupThe narrator read it far too fast for me & spoilt it, (sorry). - Her "voices" were OK-ish, but the book was over before I had a chance to digest what it was about, or understood Star/Oona, or the rest of the characters. -
At the end, I just wish I'd read the book myself, (if my hands could hold the book long enough, or my blurred vision would go away). - I've read lots of Maeve Binchy books (myself) & loved them all & I have listened to other books, (various authors) & they've been fine - it really isn't as good as my own imagination while I'm reading, but they were OK, good enough & some were great.
I might read it again myself in the future, i'll have to wait a while, then I'll know if it was actually a good story or not? My score : - 4 out of 10.
Good story, great author narrator not good though.
