About this listen

SHARPE IS BACK.

The brand new novel from Bernard Cornwell in the global bestselling Sharpe series.

If any man can do the impossible it's Richard Sharpe . . .

And the impossible is exactly what the formidable Major Sharpe is asked to do when he's dispatched on an undercover mission behind enemy lines, deep in the Spanish countryside.

For a remote village is about to become the centre of a battle for the future of Europe. Sitting high above the Almaraz bridge, it is the last link between two French armies, one in the north and one in the south; if they meet, the British are doomed.

Only Sharpe's small group of men – with their cunning and courage to rely on – stand in their way. But they're rapidly outnumbered, enemies are hiding in plain sight, and time is running out . . .

SHARPE’S COMMAND is the brand new novel in the bestselling historical series that has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.

I enjoyed this but it has many discrepancies & the narrator has not been up to his best, his accents for a number of characters changed or not as good, particularly Harper and Hogan.

Discrepancies including Sharpe being a Major one minute and a Captain the next, but he's not made a major until later that year. Harper referred to as a RSM when he still should be a Sergeant.

Sharpe claims he has only ever had one rifle, but he gave one away to Theresa and lost another before this novel. Also Theresa asks for a rifle, even though she had Sharpe's from Sharpe's Gold.

Not the best, but still enjoyable

for those who don't read
historical accuracy doesn't count so much
this is fiction

voices bring me a pleasure

Always had a problem with the accents on audible. In the books Sharpe is from the rookeries of London but the accent is always South Yorkshire - as per Sean Bean. Annoying. Also he is referred as Captain a couple of times but is actually a Major according to the text. Finally is Harper really from Donegal? The accent sounds more north east Ireland to me. I am available as proof reader/listener and at a reasonable rate too!

Northern Sharpe?

I did very much enjoy the story and think that the shorter scope and scale of the book worked well as a small story to add to the series.

I did find that as well as some odd discrepancies in the story such as sharpes ever changing rank however my main irritant with this addition was the voice acting. Sharpe’s voice seemed tired and slower than in other books. Accents seem to change sentence to sentence for the same character. Hogan for example goes from Irish accent to sharing the same accent as the English officers. Not terrible but just a slight irritant.

All in all another great book that can be commended!

Great additional shorter length story- a few issues

I don’t understand what all the negative reviews are: it’s a fictional story for heaven’s sake; and a damn good one too!! I can only imagine those people have no imagination!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the story and the excellent narration. More please!

Loved it!
