About this listen

Sharpe is back.

The global best seller Bernard Cornwell returns with his iconic hero, Richard Sharpe.

If any man can do the impossible, it's Richard Sharpe....

Lieutenant-Colonel Sharpe is a man with a reputation. Born in the gutter, raised a foundling, he joined the army 21 years ago, and it’s been his home ever since. He’s a loose cannon, but his unconventional methods make him a valuable weapon.

So when, the dust still settling after the Battle of Waterloo, the duke of Wellington needs a favour, he turns to Sharpe. For Wellington knows that the end of one war is only the beginning of another. Napoleon's army may be defeated, but another enemy lies waiting in the shadows—a secretive group of fanatical revolutionaries hell-bent on revenge.

Sharpe is dispatched to a new battleground: the maze of Paris streets where lines blur between friend and foe. And in search of a spy, he will have to defeat a lethal assassin determined to kill his target or die trying....

It was a brave decision by the author to bring back such a beloved creation as Sharpe after a decade and a half. Thankfully it was worth the wait! Like meeting up with a life long friend, you don't speak for years and when you do, no time has passed.

Bernard Cornwell is the reason I love books. Growing up Dyslexic I hated reading at school but on a family trip to France I picked up Sharpe battle. And I been a fan ever since I gone through the Sharpe's books at least 3 times. I also read nearly every thing Bernard Cornwell has written.

15 years later and it's like he hasn't been gone

as a fan since the 80s and owner of all shares adventures, it was with great anticipation on hearing of this latest book and it does not disappoint , the style and commentary flow as the originals, with Rupert Farley narrating flawlessly adding excellent Sean bean accent along with Harpers Irish drawl, Bernard Cornwell returned to roots of his first real hero.

long overdue
