Critic reviews

"A gritty police procedural, with no-holds barred and a shocking insight to the reality of some. Dark and disturbing, yet exceptionally compelling." (Mel Sherratt, author of Taunting the Dead)

Shallow Waters is actually a very deep book! Hannah Robbins is definitely the police officer I would want investigating if I was the victim of a crime. Once she's got the bit between her teeth, she's not going to let go. You can even try to blow her up and she'll brush herself off and get on with the job. I'm not convinced that Ethan the journalist is the best match for her; I think she could do better, but this is only the first book so we will have to see how that plays out. Hannah's back story, especially her imprisoned sister, Zoe, is dangled tantalisingly in front of us and makes sure we will continue to listen to the next in the series. The police officers reaction to finding a dead child struck me as particularly endearing. They were all shocked and it's good to know that even long serving police officers can still find crime upsetting. It took me a while to acclimatise to Colleen Prendergast's narration; she sounds so young. But that's on me, not Colleen. I've reached that age where all police officers, doctors, politicians etc; look like they've just left school and shouldn't be out after dark without their mummies, so pay no attention to my issues. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable, completely credible police procedural that I'm happy to recommend. Now onto Made to Be Broken, Hannah Robbins book 2.

It was excellently written and read, loved it. Edge of seat book. Well worth a listern

brilliant

This was a surprisingly good crime story. It was obvious the author had first hand knowledge of police procedure in the U.K. and used that knowledge cleverly to keep the story moving in the right direction.
Loved the characters throughout and was pleased to find the main character had neither an alcohol problem or was receiving psychiatric treatment as we see too often in other novels of this genre.
Anyway great job and looking forward to reading the next book.

Entertaining

Good story, good performance but a lot of unnecessary detail that crime fiction fans don't need, it felt like the author was justifying things to herself rather than telling a story to the reader. I will listen to other books by Rebecca Bradley though as I feel this may change.

Although I guessed who was the bad guy right from the start that’s probably because I’ve read too many detective books. Really great story and book, well narrated. Look forward to reading more from the author.
