The Ghosts of the Tanith First-and-Only have been away from the front line for too long. Listless and hungry for action, they are offered a mission that perfectly suits their talents.

The objective: the mysterious Salvation's Reach, a remote and impenetrable stronghold concealing secrets that could change the course of the Sabbat Worlds campaign. But the proposed raid is so hazardous, it's regarded as a suicide mission, and the Ghosts may have been in reserve for so long they've lost their edge. Haunted by spectres from the past and stalked by the Archenemy, Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and his Ghosts embark upon what could be their finest hour...or their final mission.

Such a great story. But such a massive let down by the narrator. The voice acting is confused and sloppy, with many characters being indistinguishable, and often accents forgotten.
A major disappointment, especially after hearing Toby Longworth breathe such life into the ghosts with previous novels.

Solid story, sloppy narration.

Not the narrators fault. An error to change the narrator late in the series. Gaunts ghotsts are my favourite novel series I will defend it to anyone. But the way the characters were portrayed was so jarring to me that I found myself desperately waiting for it to be over. Gaunt Larkin and Zweil especially they sounded cartoonish. A sad thing to have a first low point while reading these books. The story was good. Perhaps a little slow at the start to build tension. There were certain strange moments that seemed as if Dan Abnet had got someone else to write certain parts. It felt more light hearted and whimsical than his usual writing style. But that could also be down to the narration.

Great story, terrible narration

The change of narrator was jarring to say the least. it does not seem like there was any prep work done as he mispronounced names and gave some characters absolutely terrible voices that were completely different. This took alot away from my overall impression of the book and the story in general. Which is a shame as this book had some great scenes and important events. However, I unfortunately could not get into them in the same way i have done in the previous books in the series.

the narration is so bad I had no idea what was going on for most of this. all the voices have the wrong accents, there's no consistency, beladon characters have the same accents as tanith and the same with vergast, the characters voices seem to change so you don't know who's talking when. the names are generally pronounced incorrectly, a couple of which I had no idea who they werefor the entirety of this book

the correct thing to do here is to take this one and the next down and have Toby Longworth rerecord then. it's so jarring.

Enjoyed and would recommend. Great addition to the continued stories of the Tabitha First and Only.
