About this listen

The Ghosts of the Tanith First-and-Only have been away from the front line for too long. Listless and hungry for action, they are offered a mission that perfectly suits their talents.

The objective: the mysterious Salvation's Reach, a remote and impenetrable stronghold concealing secrets that could change the course of the Sabbat Worlds campaign. But the proposed raid is so hazardous, it's regarded as a suicide mission, and the Ghosts may have been in reserve for so long they've lost their edge. Haunted by spectres from the past and stalked by the Archenemy, Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and his Ghosts embark upon what could be their finest hour...or their final mission.

Listened to all the books in this series so far (except for only in death and blood pact as they’re not available) and got used to the way the pervious books were read, James McPherson doesn’t do a bad job, but it’s far too different from what I was used to, and it really ruined my enjoyment of the book, and the fact he made Larkin sound like some so ratty little crack head really left a bad taste in my mouth for such a great character, that and gaunt sounded like he was 16 years old, not a grizzled veteran commander. Great story but made worse from the decision to change the regular narrator

A great story as always. The narrator did a great job with the various accents for the characters. However I did find it a struggle to begin with, being used to Toby’s usual character voices made it a little difficult to gel with at first.

Dan Abnett delivers as always

A great story from one of the Black Library's best writers with all the pulse pounding action you expect from an Imperial Guard novel and some added goodies for the road. Added points for the Scottish narrator to really make it feel as if you're right their with the Ghosts

For Tanith

A drastically different narrator to the previous books leads to different voices, styles and accents for characters.
James McPherson doesn’t seem an appropriate choice for this novel. I’m just grateful I’ve already read the paperback…

Dan as good as ever, shame about the narrator

Great story as always but, really let down by the poorly delivered narration, especially after the great work done by Toby Longworth. struggled to keep going especially with the Space Marines parts .

poorly narrated.
