Summary

Road to Resilience is based on the author‘s life from the time of his birth to when he turned 11 years old, but most especially, the time he spent in the foster care system. The author details the abuse and neglect he suffered as a child in the hands of his foster parents, which are quite horrifying. The book also shows the author‘s strength of character and decision to triumph (and triumph, he did) over his adversities. One of the testimonies of the author‘s victories is the negation of the prediction by the doctors at the time of his birth that he would grow up to use drugs.

Road to Resilience also gives voice and draws attention to the ordeals suffered by children in foster care - not to show that the foster care system is bad, but to encourage the victims of abuse suffered in foster care that something beautiful and purposeful can still emerge from their pain through faith and perseverance. This book is also a wake-up call to those who run the foster care system to do more to safeguard not just the future but also the mental, physical, and sexual health of children in their care.
