Story
My name's Noah Kilmartin. I'm from Ruddock, Ohio, and I'm absolutely, 100 percent unqualified to save the universe from the slavering demonic hordes of the super evil queen Lilith. Too bad nobody asked my opinion. All I've got to do is pass five lethal trials that'll prove I'm the universe's last chance at salvation. To do so, I'll have to lean hard on those three years of Okinawan jiu-jutsu classes I took in high school, learn to wield my new magic sword, and, oh yeah - select five women to flesh out my team.

Story
Sebastian Frost was a man with an interesting reputation. He’d killed 12 giants, eight heroes, a duke, and even a prince. But nobody ever talked about any of that. All they talked about was the deviant, disgusting, detestable Herald of Shalia that shamelessly laid with elves. That was because in the strange world based on game mechanics Frost found himself in, laying with elves was somehow treated like laying with animals. Naturally, they weren’t calling him Herald Frost the giant killer....

Steve doesn’t care who he was. He knows more than enough to realize it doesn’t matter at all. Now living in what had once been the Creeplands and maintaining a thriving farm there, they are under constant siege from the Creep itself. It's still better than life in Lamals. And that’s just how it is. After taking over the Citadel, removing Lynn from her place of power, stopping the Creep’s advance, and starting to take over part of the Creeplands, he was certainly making a difference for himself, humans, and men everywhere.

Sebastian Frost’s most recent memory was waking up in a field naked, in a body that wasn’t his own, in a world that definitely wasn’t his own, and three stunning pointy-eared women staring right at him. He also remembered hair as white as starlight, eyes like amethysts, and the name Shalia. Fortunately, it was the right name to know. Shalia was the elves’ goddess, and that made him her herald.

Steve doesn’t know who he is. Or who he was. He doesn’t know anything, actually. Not even where he is. Other than a vast open field of dirt. All Steve knows is that he’s apparently supposed to build a farm. At least that’s his only workable assumption. Given the number of farm-tools left to him. That and the massive number of sacks full of seeds. Unfortunately, this isn’t even the strangest part of this new life. Hidden inside the farm tools, Steve finds messages. Messages that appear in floating windows in front of him.

Summary
Betrayal cuts deepest when someone you love wields the knife.
For Kellik, a once-rising star of Port Gloom's guild of thieves, it also leaves him floating in the bay, bleeding out and without hope or allies. Saved by an urchin and healed by a disgraced saint, Kellick is consumed by a single desire: to find out why his guild master ordered him cut down moments after passing his initiation trial.
Burning with injustice, Kellik recruits a number of gorgeous rogues to his side: fallen assassins, dark elf witches, and unnervingly polite necromancers. Together they journey through the shadowy underbelly of Port Gloom in pursuit of bloody revenge, daring to face impossible odds and uncover the grim truth: not only the reason for the guild's unnatural monopoly on crime, but why his guild master might have been justified in ordering his death after all.
Warning and minor spoilers: Rise of the Shadow Rogue is an 18+ audiobook intended for mature listeners. It contains graphic sex, medieval violence, and nudity. People swear, betray their loved ones, set each other on fire, seduce each other, and are scared witless by abysmal horrors. Most importantly, you'll meet gorgeous, powerful women, some capable of twisting the very fabric of fate, others of tearing a man in half with their bare hands. All are willing to enter unconventional, polyamorous harem relationships if it means helping Kellik achieve justice, and with this many powerful women on his side, he just might stand a chance.

By the hanged god's raging cock!
Rise of the shadow rogue straddles the edge between fun, flippant escapism, and a complex, gritty world building. You have a roguish MC who, thankfully, isn't cold and unrelatable, in fact, he's just as goofy and endearing as I'd imagine myself to being in many situations and that's one of the main strengths of this book.
The other strength is the length of the book. As the story builds, characters (and there are lots of strong, vivid characters! Creys and Iris are my bae.) thankfully have enough time to develop between moments of action, and *action*.
I can't say that this book is for everyone though, as some might be put off by sudden and graphic sex scenes, but, in this case, these scenes actually serve the plot and drive the characters forward. It doesn't have Five Trials elements of progression fantasy, but it makes up for it with a mystery that sucks you in, and an MC most will love.
My minor criticisms are:
Rough sex scenes might not be to everyone's tastes.
No epilogue/abrupt ending (but then again, maybe less is more in this case?)
Not enough Iris! (ha)
Mike Truk is not writing fast enough
Finally, Ryan West's Narration was excellent, with a clear differentiation between male and female characters, and a good mix of British and American accents - was so good actually, that I'm now looking at what else he's done in this genre... Scratches chin...

Great if you are male and aged 13-18
If you are in your teens this is great. If you are more mature it is spoiled by the writing, To me it reads like a teenagers dream. I have a miserable past, turns into a hero over night and women will sleep with me as soon as they see me... (The main character sleeping with every woman in sight after only exchanging a few sentences). The book is following the standard formula for Fantasy novels with no twists.

Very, very nearly unbearable
The things that got me to the end are: the narrator and some plot elements.
Every sex scene made me want to delete the file then and there. The made-up language sections were only just tolerable.
I don't know how I finished this book. The author is going on a list of "never agains".

Why
I wasn't expecting a deep involved story, or intricate characters. Why did the author feel the main character had to nail every female, I ended up skipping parts of the book. I think the author thought he had to add the sex scenes in nearly every chapter otherwise it wouldn't do well. Needless to say I won't be bothering with the rest of the series.

rise of the shadow rogue
This book was not a good listen, only improving in the last chapter! if the author has spend as much enthusiasm on writing the plot as the boring endless sex scenes (degrading women in the process) - it would have been so much more enjoyable

By Blind Fortuna's silken ****
This is possibly my favourite audiobook. The written is brilliant, the character development is outstanding. The undertones of free will and the conflicted nature of Kellik's growth and ideals throughout the plot kept me wondering how the story and world could grow. The world is bleak and gritty, though the family built throughout and towards the end adds a certain lightness to it all. Ryan West performance was excellent and the voice of our charismatic rogue was spot-on. The ending isn't exactly an ending as its simply the finishing of one goal leading them strike up another. Which is exactly why I signed up Patreon, first 3 chapters of the sequel are already out.😋

I enjoyed the story although I found it irritating beyond belief that every female our 'hero' comes in contact with...he has sex in graphic detail....it was like a teenage boy fantasy and that ruined the story for me.

Great story. Can’t recommend it to friends.
I loved the story and the world he built, but due to the harem elements and graphic sex scenes, there are few people I can recommend it to.
This is definitely action/rpg/porn.
I’m sure I just missed the tag in the description.
Looking forward to part 2

not the harem book I expected, in a good way.
mild spoilers ahead
based on the summary, I was expecting some multi girlfriend somehow we all agree to date one guy thing. what I got was a more an action movie with James bond level of sexual encounters. but instead of one interest per movie, he shags multiple girls. all told I enjoyed the story.

Start of the book sounded amazing then...
The narrator was great!! The book itself started out very well, However a little less than half way through the book it just crapped out.
Instead of a adventure/fantasy it became a boys wet dream.
It was so disjointed, at first the characters had life and you were getting to know them then all of a sudden after the first sex scene they became flat, it was like the author just wrote in lines so he could get to the next sex scene.
I got half way and had to stop couldn't take it anymore, sad, because this book had so much potential.

Basically, Bad D&D Porn.
It felt like the narrator was reading a script to a 1970s Porn movie based around the fantasy world of D&D. The story is basic and kind of weak. The main character is constantly seduced in VIVID detail by improbably hot humans and non humans. The narrator performance is lackluster. Very unoriginal characters, except one which was basically ignored. Could have been good...

Great gritty fantasy
If your looking for a gritty , dirty, fantasy novel this is it. But very well done. Not like game of thrones realism. It’s sort of like the lord of the rings but incredibly darker. And a word of warning the scenes are like reading a playboy fantasy. All in all very good.

It was definitely different
The book starts out really well as far as the story goes. My major issue with this book was the lack of world building. Throughout the book more info gets tossed at you with no explanation from races to God’s it gets very annoying. As a side note the book does have some adult sections that are fairly extreme with the wording (I don’t mind but for those that do) and those scenes seems as if they all run back to back.

Boring... The story needed 1/4 removed.
A decent plot and story... But only decent, nothing "Wow" or even original. The whole book flows like the author, took elements of familiar genres or ploys from popular books, and spliced them in. These inserts do not flow smoothly or even logically with the authors writing style. Like how only Stephen King can write his own style. And anyone trying to mimic it will never have the correct flow or style to play of one of his scenes.
This author can NOT pull off other successful plots or styles.
In addition, about a fourth of the book needs to be edited out to condense the massive empty over wording every possible scene or opportunity. Shorter would help keep the reader interested

Impressive and dark
This book was so well written. In a way that you take it very seriously as high quality main stream fantasy. The only part which may keep it isolated is the explicit sex scenes which although done well I suppose confines it to a smaller audience. That aside this is Joe Abercrombie level story and gore which is a rare rare gem in a world where mediocre books have to be waded through on a regular basis if you want real dark fantasy.
