Summary

Alcohol is an ingrained part of our social lives. Every celebration we have tends to involve raising a glass or socially drinking to feel like we fit in. But what happens when alcohol takes over your life to the point where you’re drinking too much, or you’re possibly even dependent/addicted to it?

Alcoholism is a growing issue. An estimated 3 million deaths worldwide can be attributed to alcohol use, with an estimated 380 million people classed as alcoholic across the world. Those are eye-watering statistics, but they also show that if you’re someone troubled by alcohol, you’re not alone.

Refreshingly Sober is your helpful and friendly guide on the road to sobriety. No fluff, no textbook chat, and no unnecessary lectures, you’ll learn the facts and how to help make your journey easier overall.

You will learn:

  • The effects of alcohol on the body and why it is so negative
  • Whether you should cut down or stop drinking alcohol completely
  • How your body responds to alcohol and how it becomes addicted
  • The methods to stop drinking; the ones that actually work
  • An overview of Alcoholics Anonymous and those famous 12 steps
  • Tips to overcome cravings and take control of your life
  • How to spot and avoid enablers
  • How fun it can be to be sober, and how you can enjoy a social life without alcohol
  • Exactly why you can do this and look back on your journey with pride

There is no shame or failing in admitting that you need help. This book will open your eyes to the bravery of every step on your journey to sobriety, and help you through the whole experience.

A good listen for drinking less

I enjoyed listening why and how people finally have the courage and determination to go sober. It offers good practical information and how to go about getting the right type of support. I have become much more mindful of my own alcohol intake which I am working to reduce (as I do still enjoy my drinks, nights out and get togethers or a few drinks whilst cooking) so this has been a great refresher for me to listen to as I try to adapt my drinking habits.

Makes you really think about your alcohol intake

I won’t say I really enjoyed the content, as it’s quite disturbing thinking about how much I actually drink and what it’s doing to me! This was a great listen for anyone that wants or needs a reason to cut down or give up.

A real Eye opener

There is a fine balance from enjoying alcohol to needing it to relax. This audiobook goes into how this process evolves, identifying issues and narrated in a non judging way.
Very interesting and very thought provoking.

Useful Content

As a person who has been in recovery for 8 years I was intrigued yet dubious about how this book may actually be useful to me. What a refreshing surprise! There is lots of research and great detail that has gone in to this book making it a very useful tool in helping people look at the alcohol intake and what to do about it if they are worried.
Tips on how to cut down or for the more extreme addictions, lots of information on AA and the twelve steps.
I think for those who identify as Alcoholics, you can not beat The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous (obviously this is just my own opinion) but for those who perhaps want help on where to start with cutting down to stopping, I definitely recommend this book as a great source of reference to get you started.
