About this listen

“I’ll make up my own mind about you.”

Months after he was mugged in Houston, legal secretary Jasper Barnes is still hiding out in Hidden Creek. Self-defense classes would boost his confidence. Problem is, the guy offering them is Chad Allaback, and he has a reputation, to say the least. So why does Jasper feel an irresistible pull toward him?

Six months after his wake-up call, Chad is too afraid of his past to reach out to those around him in his hometown. Accepting help from Jasper, when he finds out he’s about to lose his home, is the hardest thing he’s done. Can he really change now?

Self-defense lessons quickly turn into a sizzling, secret connection. When neither man is sure if they can trust their heart to the other, they hit a breaking point all too quickly. It’s going to take a Hidden Creek miracle to heal their scars and find redemption in each other’s arms.

Welcome to Hidden Creek, Texas, where the heart knows what it wants and where true love lives happily ever after. Every Men of Hidden Creek novel can be listened to on its own, but look out for familiar names around town! This audiobook contains a changed man, gossip text chains, and a sassy twink kissing his unexpected savior.

This story is Amazing! I hadn’t read/listened to whatever the book was that detailed Chad’s prior behavior, but it was clear a lot of people didn’t like him, and he had a tremendous uphill battle if he wanted to stay and be accepted in Hidden Creek. He got points for that from me right away. So many books start with someone moving away and starting anew somewhere…until their past catches up to them. Here, Chad faces down his critics and demons every day, and he is literally crawling his way back. I really admired his strength and perseverance. And, I absolutely loved Jasper. He was so steadfast and encouraging. He mis-stepped on occasion, but I loved the way he advocated for Chad. Such a sweet and heart-warming story. There is a bit of angst, mostly about things that happened in the past that are still holding the MCs back, I loved their journey of growth and love.

My favorite lines:
Chad: I don’t wanna be saved. Just love me while I save myself.
Jasper: I can do that. I’ll be by your side.

The narration by Nick Russo is excellent, especially the way he captures emotion-filled moments. It felt like I was there, listening to Chad's tear-filled voice.

All of the hidden creek books can be read alone, this one has some back story in the very first book Shelter. I love it when a character from a previous book who was, shall we say less than perfect, gets a chance at redemption. Chad is the one. He has a history within Hidden Creek, one which he thinks the town won’t forget or forgive. A second chance comes with Jasper who for his own reasons agrees to give Chad a chance. There’s no quick fix here. Both Chad and Jasper have a lot to work through and learn before any lasting change can happen. There are bumps in the road, misunderstandings and finally enlightenment leads to a happy ending. Perfect conclusion to season four.
Nick J Russo has added to this already wonderful series by enhancing the books with his excellent narration. He gave so many characters an extra dimension it a delight to listen to.

So we have Jasper and Chad...both with things in their past that they’re working on. Chad is truly trying for redemption from the town of Hidden Creek - to make up for how he was in the past. Jasper had a bad time in Houston and is now trying to move forward, but in moving forward he’s run back to Hidden Creek and that’s where he and Chad meet.

I loved Chad and Jasper’s story and really felt for both characters. Jasper was keen to move forward but the same time pulling away from actually moving forward. Chad wanted to move forward but didn’t think that he was worthy of it. Both men together were just right because they helped the other realise what they had to do. Some stubbornness on both sides (what good story doesn’t have this?!?!) and some moments where I just wanted to wrap Chad up in a big giant hug!

A good narration by Nick J Russo that made the story fresh even after I had read it before listening to it. The characters were really brought to life.

Redemption is truly a redemption story

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Nick J Russo is one of the top 5 narrators for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow.
I'm just not yet finish with the book, just over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

as great as the ebook

3.5 stars’ This was my first Men or Hidden Creek books (and it definitely won’t be my last!) Because it was my first, I didn’t really get to see all the negativity by Chad in the past, and I’m glad for it as I’m not an easy forgiver lol. Instead, I got to see a man who has made bad choices in the past, but is truly repentant about them and is trying to change himself for the better. There was no hiding his past though, and I loved that, as it gave the relationship with Jasper (who knew what had happened) more credibility. Jasper was an amazing character too; who dealt with his own issues and it was all just handled so maturely and wonderfully.

Absolutely loved it
