About this listen

Quinton

After the best one-night stand ever, I discover the man I thought was perfect is anything but. Leo Rodgers is an arrogant surgeon who lords his expertise and experience over everyone. Well, not me. I’m a competent nurse who refuses to be pushed around. By anyone.

So I flirt with him to annoy him, but there are more fish in the sea than Leo. I have no problem getting a date with a man or a woman when I want one. The problem? I find myself increasingly hung up on a cranky surgeon, whose soft moments with his two children give me hope there's a good man under the arrogance.

Leo

Quinton Yi is a pain in my ass. After our disastrous, but oh-so-memorable one-night stand, I find myself having to work with him. His flirting is driving me nuts, so I can't be blamed for snapping at him. What part of one-night doesn't he understand?

My ex-husband once tried to tell me that I was a pompous asshat. On the contrary—I just have no time for trivia. I need to be skilled and focused so my patients have the best chance of survival. One devastating loss, though, sends me spiraling. Suddenly, I’m realizing how fallible I am. And that by rejecting Quinton, I might’ve lost my best chance at finding happiness again.

Quinton’s Quest is an enemies-to-lovers, interracial, age-gap, grumpy/sunshine, single father, small-town romance gay novel. This story has a grumpy egotistical surgeon and a sunshine sassy nurse who might just give him his comeuppance.

I enjoyed this continuation of Leo and Quinton's story that began in Leo's lust. A doctor (Leo), newly hired in Mission City, hooks up with a hot guy (nurse Quinton) in a one-night stand scenario, without sharing details of who they are. They both have the "best sex of their lives," before Leo makes a derogatory statement about nurses, and Quintin promptly bristles and tells Leo to lose his number. Then. of course, they find they are co-workers at the same hospital. I was expecting some delicious enemies-to-lovers content, but Quintin's ire is pretty short-lived as he learns more about Leo and the reasons behind his behavior. There is still some push and pull, as Leo keeps putting both feet in his mouth, but little real animosity, and it's cleared up quickly. I enjoyed the story, especially seeing Leo grow as a person and become more humble, more human, and able to admit his fallibility. I also really enjoyed seeing more of Gideon and the way he has thrived with Archer. Gideon truly is the most forgiving person in the world! I loved the side characters, too (Melody, Trevor, Mama, and of course, Lucky).

It helps to have read or listened to all the other books and stories connected to Mission City, because a lot of the characters make cameos here, and all the names and people can get overwhelming. Most don't play major roles, so you can ignore them without too much effect on the story, but it still threw me out of the story a little trying to remember who they all were. The part in the middle about the fire accident and Finn was also a bit distracting and didn't seem to have a place in the story, but the author notes at the end that this is related to a different story-to-come, so really just a bit of a sample or teaser, so don't get too hung up looking for some continuation or resolution. There isn't one in this book.

Michael Dean's narration was great, as always, and really shined in the heartfelt moments, like when Leo (emotionally) crashed after the loss of his patient, and the commotion with the hospital emergency, when Quintin stepped in to take care of the kids.

I received an audio ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Let's just start with the important bit. Coming of 'Leo's Lust', the bridge to this sixth book in the 'Love in Mission City' series.I was not to keen on Leo his story. Then again everybody shouldd be given another chance so why not him.
We get a bit more background how he came the man who is now.
Que Quinton. He is the key to get Leo to do some more self reflection and works on becoming a man who dares to be more than a father to his two children, and a very driven

Quinton
Is such a wonderful character. He has a big, inclusive and caring heart. He never did not met a person who could not be a future friend.
He, a bit reluctantly it seems, finds Leo is more to him and he is invested to build on what they had that one time.

I really like how this story developed. Bonds are built (back up) with friends and family (found) or not. A marriage, a grandma who never thought she would become. Most of all I adore that Gideon and Leo jump over their own shadows to grant even more parental figures and family for the kids.

Narration by Michael Dean
As with the previous books, I thoroughly enjoyed Michael his work for this series.

After the set-up in the prequel story, Leo’s Lust, I was really expecting (and hoping for) much more of an enemies to lovers vibe for this story. But instead the insta lust continued basically after like one day of Quinton telling Leo where to shove it.

I do enjoy these audiobooks for easy listening though as Michael Dean’s narration is always great.

It was also wonderful to see how Leo interacted with Gideon & Archer. And the scene with Quinton and his mother spending the day with Leo’s kids was sweet.

Listening to Gideon's Gratitude and the short story Leo's Lust, I was not a fan of Leo. Quinton, has played a secondary character in a few stories, a full of life character that threw the amazing parties. After the disastrous morning after the most amazing hook up I was curious to see how this would go.
Leo a cardiothoracic surgeon, has just started a new job at the same hospital where Quinton works as a nurse. From the moment they laid eyes on each other sparks flew and I loved that Quinton never let Leo's prestigious job put him off telling Leo what he thought. However the more they worked together the more Leo opens up and I did start to rethink my views on him.
The scenes involving his children, even though he didn't show it much, showed that Leo did have a good heart and with the amount of trust he had in Quinton.
Shout to Quinton's mom who was a loveable character and who always had Quinton's happiness at the forefront.
Catching up with the rest of Mission City especially Archer and Gideon and it has reinforced my need to read Dean and Adam's story.
Another great narration from Michael Dean and with a number of characters, each having their own individual voice, so there was no confusion following the story.
With Finn's story teased I am curious to see what is happening with him

Who would have thought that Leo could became a likeable character?
Though I haven't read Gideon's story (but will), there is enough backstory to understand that Leo was a bit harsh.
Quinton is such a good match for him - he challenged Leo with his sass, confidence and 'take no prisoners' attitude. As they navigate their attraction, Leo begins to shed the walls he's built up, mends his relationship with his ex and gains a whole new family with Mama and other couples in Mission City.
Leo and Quinton get their HEA with a lovely epilogue.

Michael Dean is a good choice, he's great with the humour, sass of Quinton and the arrogance of Leo. Add in the side characters, esp. Mama and you get a well-rounded cast of voices, allowing you to experience the story. Thoroughly enjoyed listening.
