Summary

The fight to be free is at hand.

As the nation struggles in the grip of a powerless world, the seaport town of Eureka, California, scrambles to recover from betrayal. When the most dangerous from Humboldt Correctional Facility escape, questions of leadership arise, and a deadly decision places the Rikers and the Stricklands in the crosshairs of a ruthless adversary.

Will it finally bring together the two feuding families?

After four months of enduring threats beyond the town, the greatest enemy is within. As the community divides and loyalties end, Colby, Alicia, and the other survivors must navigate uncharted waters. But escaping tyranny is risky and will demand a sacrifice. Who will survive the final battle? One thing is sure - facing the sins of the past is brutal, but it may be the only hope they have to protect the community and outlive the darkness.

Outlive the Darkness is the fourth and final explosive book in A Powerless World saga from international best-selling author Jack Hunt. This engrossing, post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series is about two ordinary, feuding families fighting for survival in a world gone dark.

Things turn even more deadly

I enjoyed this book and the whole series. It is set mostly around two feuding families so you definitely need to start at the beginning to get all the background story and nuances behind each character. With this book being the finale in the series you just know not everybody is going to make it and this is usually when I break out the tissues but with so much going on I didn't have time to get upset but you will be surprised by who doesn't make and who does. Over the course of the four books we have come to know the characters well and yet the author still managed to throw in a few twists. This is definitely an author that packs his story full of action, drama, revenge, suspicions and betrayal all of which makes for a good listen.
Life in Eureka is finally finding its new reality after the emp pulse took out all the country's electricity and Colby helped stop a militia group from staging a take over but now the small town faces its biggest problem to date. A prisoner transporter was attacked moving dangerous prisoners from a high security prison to a maximum security facility and one of the prisoner's to escape has a grudge against the town, especially the Rikers and the Stricklands. Can the warring families put a life time of grudges behind to come together and face a common enemy? The problem is the enemy isn't just the ones they are facing outside the walls of Eureka and as both sides take causality, will anybody be left to rebuild?
I like the narrator, he does a good job with both make and female voices and helps brings the story to a dramatic conclusion.

Excellent conclusion!

Outlive the Darkness is the fourth and last book in the Powerless World series. The series is well-written, rich in detail, gripping, along with a fully developed plot. Everything moves together – in a fluid-like manner leaving, further engaging the readers/listeners. The characters are phenomenally developed, ordinary, and authentic; their interactions and the dialogue are natural.

The storyline is unpredictable, with loads of treachery, revenge, deceit, secrecy, conflict, action, and unexpected twists. The buildup to the final battle is outstanding; it was intense and exciting. The ending was done perfectly; I had no idea who would live. Jack Hunt did a fantastic job with the work-building; it's realistic and ruthless, definitely capturing the attention.

Excellent narration by Miles Meili! He captured the nuances of the characters, emulating personalities and emotions. His cadence reflected the right amount of intensity and energy. Overall, Outlive the Darkness was an exciting listen, packed with the right amount of anticipation and excitement. It needs to be read in order; there is a lot of back story to the characters and additional details that shouldn't be missed. I definitely enjoyed the series, one I'll highly recommend.

Not for me

Unfortunately not for me. I thought the new threat of the escaped prisoners would make the series more interesting, but the storyline never really came together for me. There was a lot of narrative just talking about planning strategies which I wish had been reduced or cut out because they were long periods where nothing was happening, it just went on and on. Some of the characters mentioned in book 3 as being significant to the storyline didn't even appear in book 4. I liked how the series started with Colby and his dog chasing down Alicia while dealing with the Russian assassins and the EMP, but the story quickly turned into blood feuds and never left. I was more interested in the side stories, but of course these were short lived.

I was given this book for free of my own choosing and have voluntarily left this review.
