About this listen

This collection of narratives from autistic adults is structured around their decades of experience of life, covering 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60 and 70s+. These are varied and diverse, spanning different continents, genders, sexualities and ethnicities, yet the author highlights the common themes that unite them and skilfully draws out these threads.

Each chapter is based on accounts from one age group and includes accounts from people of that age, giving an insight into the history of autism and signifying how gaining a diagnosis (or not) has changed people's lives over time. The book is about ageing with an autistic mind and helping the listener find connections between neurotypical and neurodiverse people by acknowledging the challenges we all face in our past, present and future.

most of those points at that old, stale, damp-smelling hypocrisy, often with its spouse: arrogance as they force-feed that over-sized, elderly offspring of our Culture, which over-stayed its welcome: Discrimination.

Being an Aspie myself, I can only be biased, yet the words, the voices of people, the sequence of scenarios brought back some of my own memories and although I listened to this book in solitude, that warm feeling that I am not alone. There was no feelings of sadness but gratitude towards the creators of this recording and in fact: a bit of Pride. Thank you most sincerely. :)

This book had me grinning in recognition in some places, and smiling sadly in others. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

A book about people like me.

Reassuring and helpful to read, especially as it spans the generations and represents the breadth of autistic experience. I am so grateful to all those who told their stories and shared their lived experience. Thank you

Great listening

I loved every minute of this book. I already know I will be listening to it again. A very insightful collection of stories that have helped me to make sense of my own life and experience as an undiagnosed Autist.

absolutely amazing
